Hi all,
In advance of this tour visiting the Howth branch in two weekends time, locomotive 228 did a route-knowledge refresher trip down the branch today. Pictures here:

Hi all,
With the recent announcement that the 2700 Class DMUs are due to be withdrawn by the summer I decided to do my own farewell tour with them, taking in all the lines they are utilised on over a four day period last week. On the first day I got the most southerly 2700 in Ireland, 2716...
Thanks. I like to go to Tara Street for the steam specials as there is a bit of a contrast between a steam train and this city centre station. Of course most of the time a DART comes along to ruin the shot.
Took four shots this morning while passing through Dublin Connolly of the two steam...
Hi all,
On Sunday morning I received an unusual invitation when I was asked if I wanted to take part in a train evacuation exercise for Iarnród Éireann, along with the Irish Red Cross, Civil Defence and Dublin Fire Brigade. Not having to be asked twice I duly turned up in Connolly Station...
Hi all,
Some pictures from Dublin today are now online. 080 hauling a seven piece Autoballaster rake through Drumcondra, 075 on the Tara, 29025 hauling one of the Emirates DART sets to Drogheda, 231 on the IWT liner and NIR 3006 on an Enterprise working. Pictures can be found here...
One of my colleagues in work recently popped home to Latvia for two weeks and while there he took these three shots of the two locomotives passing through his local station (which I have to get the name of). The pictures were taken in a temperature of -25C!
I know nothing about Latvian...
Just did a quick search on DB site and its allowing me to book on CityNightLine for next Wednesday for 29.
Depart Prague 18:29 and arrive Amsterdam 09:59.
I use to like the thumbprints on the doors to denote the different classes on the Enterprise services, but it got a bit ridiculous when they were applied to the locomotives. And of course some Mark 3s got them but with slightly different colours to confuse people more!
^Actually on the Enterprise First Class is called 'First Plus' and Standard Class is called 'Enterprise'.
But then for some strange reason first class does not exist on the IE network with it being 'City Gold' on the Cork run, and 'Premier' on the other services, though the latter does not...
Hi all,
For the last four years the former GNR(I) metals of Irish Rail have been a bit like the Alamo, resisting the 22000-class dmu as it spread across nearly every other line in the country. Today that battle was lost when sets 22006 and 22013 operated the 07:00 Dundalk to Dublin Connolly. In...
Hi all,
Just a few shots to end the year. Popped up north yesterday and got two C4k sets, a C3k and one Castle Class. It was probably my final trip on the latter.
And then a final shot for the year today with 073 on the Tara during some 'soft' weather. What better way to end the year...
I suspect the transfer discount will be the same as capping, in that you don't pay more than the equivalent one day bus and rail. However at the moment it is possible to get a city centre add-on to a rail ticket which allows you to get from Heuston to the city centre, so it may be something...
Capping and transfer discounts are being introduced during the year. Also to be included on the card are season tickets. It'll just be a matter of time, and don't forget it has taken twelve years from announcement to implementation for the leap, so a few more months to get the full benefits is...
