    Sheffield Supertram & Tram Train news

    Couple more photos of diverted TT services today. Round the third side of the triangle: Arrived at Sheffield station tram stop, return destination already set up: Crossing over to platform C (not the one directly outside the rail station entrance) to pick up outbound passengers: And into...

    Railcard app update to 2.0.0

    My iphone tells me the Railcard app has been updated to version 2.0.0. No new features mentioned, just "bug fixes and code updates". Anyone used it yet? I try and avoid using the early versions of anything until it's stable! Current version 1.6.1

    Bad design of Thameslink platform departure screens

    How about "1st train" or "This train" and for the other "2nd train" in big letters?

    Transport for Wales Class 230

    Thanks for the context. Makes some kind of sense of it all. But to echo the other comments, "my standard's better than your standard"!

    Transport for Wales Class 230

    Yes I think the plan changed while it was in the platform and I had already disappeared. The staff member who turfed me off definitely thought the return working to Bidston was cancelled, as I asked; and there was also a class 5 empty working to Bidston in RTT when I abandoned. Now on board the...

    Transport for Wales Class 230

    First 230 experience - boarded -008 at Wrexham G, took photo, sat down for shuttle to Central and back to Bidston, train cancelled in platform, empty to depot (or somewhere). Oh well, a 197 coming in 45 mins. Time for a coffee. (Edit after coffee) in fact it ran in the end, was only cancelled...

    Best ever train to run on UK mainline (excluding HS1)

    They (4-CEP etc) only needed bouncy seats to cope with the terrible ride from the track and suspension! Agree that the refurb seats were rock hard by comparison. But there’s no way that basically an electric Mk1 was the best ever train.

    Sheffield Supertram & Tram Train news

    RTT is still showing times at Cathedral for those dates, but non-stop at Castle Sq and Fitzalan Sq. I imagine the Sheffield station tram stop doesn't exist as an entry in the rail timetable system and they're using Cathedral as a substitute. e.g...

    Sorrento -> Rome Train Tips

    Sorrento -> Rome Train Tips

    Some of it could be that old. Wikipedia lists the rolling stock, better explained in the Italian version. Shots here from my visit in 2022. The interior is of an older type sinilar to that in the first pic. The newer looking type in the third pic was on one of those 'express' services: I...

    Sorrento -> Rome Train Tips

    It’s worth experiencing - like a glorified ancient tram running at train speeds. It’s not the height of comfort, but having used it, I wouldn’t avoid it if it was the most convenient route for where I was going.

    NS introduces off-peak advance tickets

    Just to add, I've successfully booked one of these from the UK via the NS phone app and using a UK-based debit card (although a Euro account). First time it failed at the card confirmation stage, second time I got the "confirm in your banking app" message which worked. The barcode ticket...

    ‘Must do’ European Loco Hauled Services

    From October 2022, on the RhB... 1) Train from Tirano looking forwards, Allegra unit pulling coaches and wagons: 2) from the same window looking back at the last coach and the wagons: 3) the observation end of the last car on a push-pull set running St Moritz to Chur, loco visible through...

    ‘Must do’ European Loco Hauled Services

    Isn’t it mostly units hauling coaches (and wagons!) between Tirano/St M? And the Chur-StM that are the newish push-pull sets with locos? Both routes worth it for the scenery and engineering though.
