It certainly looks like the DfT designed it themselves, in a few minutes using an AI. The country that has had enough of experts, and we saw how well that went during the pandemic.
Repeating this gaudy mess at every coach is an obvious fail. There is a way to evoke the flag, and BA did it...
(Checks date...) My problem with the announcements was never with the voices themselves but the way they were rather badly hacked about compared with the system they replaced. An AI/text-to-speech system wouldn't get that wrong, as it can consider the whole sentence, but might need help in other...
Still running a reduced timetable compared with pre-COVID, SWR definitely has peaks on Tuesdays to Thursdays and much less so, though increasing, on Mondays and Fridays. Notably, "peaky" trouble finding a seat carries on longer into the evenings now that some routes have half the service they...
In these cases, Bangor and Newport, the county/area is in the full station name and Bangor (Gwynedd) is correct - although you might think it's not necessary when it's miles away from anywhere else with a similar name. As far as Newport is concerned, the current full English name is Newport...
A shame that so many new trains are entering service with information systems that lack a most basic feature - a connection to the real-time system.
As soon as the timetable is amended, it should appear and be announced on the train. This would take some work away from busy staff.
At least...
I think they sound very good. I've never been a fan of any Worldline announcement, really, not to do with the voices but the way the words are put together. Nowhere near as good as Ditra &co. As someone said, we need AI Phil Sayer and to see if Rob Brydon's free.
The origin and destination routeing points are independent, I still think that if you pick the route as Not London rather than Any Permitted, Basingstoke is ruled-out
This fare check involves comparing fares from 1996, at the time of privatisation, as a way of encoding into data what was considered reasonable at the time I suppose. The £16.80 is the fare (I'm keeping it vague because it varies, but in this case we're comparing two singles) from Preston Park...
I think the Not London fare fails the historic fare check at the Winchester end (£16.80 > £14.60). Apologies to anyone that makes absolutely no sense for, but it's part of the "Routeing Guide" check that determines whether the journey taken is OK for one ticket. Having said that, anyone on the...
It doesn't... You search for the journey you should have made, or enter it manually, and then select one of a number of delays - something like 15-29, 30-59, 60-119 minutes and over two hours
I'd agree about a ticket machine, but surely any journey planner would know this and not to prevent it - bugs excepted of course - is a big problem. It's never been possible to sell a ticket with only the data provided by the industry. The words have to be turned into software as well
I may be biased, but the only way I can see a national PAYG scheme working is with an app (or some open system allowing many apps) that know where we've been. And if we're going a long way, Advance fares are always going to be better, and it's hard to imagine those being integrated, at least...
As did the Docklands Light Railway. Didn't last...
And Belgium, but nowhere else I've been
And whether they suddenly become interested at 8 or 9pm
That feels to me like a single journey ticket, valid for some time but not for a return journey
I don't see a reason for not supporting Railcards on contactless beyond that it's not their product and they have little interest in it, so there is no motivation to do the development work required. With the SWR PAYG scheme the Railcard image (if electronic) is uploaded to their website and...
I think this is the only way to go, really, if you have more than a few passwords because they should all be different and nobody can remember enough words! Then you can put all the effort into remembering a strong password for the password manager, with a second factor. Another benefit of a...
There's nothing there to stop it, other than the track and I suppose more significantly the trench ending, in the pavement. I think it's significant and concerning that the investigators haven't found out who's responsible for safety, which doesn't mean that nobody cared, quite the opposite, the...
