Supervised bus boardings and app based tickets

I think it's more that many city networks went back to boarding at the front in the 90s, with marketing guff about it making a nicer environment on the bus - I don't think it had much to do with that! Spain is very much board at the front except sometimes for peak times or contactless payments...

Are SWR's on board announcements excessive?

Certainly counter-productive for an extra reason - I'll be listening to something else to avoid it and could miss anything interesting. I don't think there should be any auto announcements in the quiet carriage, except perhaps one announcement about no announcements if you see what I mean, so...

    Kent Rover becoming online only

Fun and games on the horizon for sure

    Kent Rover becoming online only

I think the bodge is having different data for both, along with having to add yet more data to handle flexi seasons (not too far from a ranger/rover) and carnets (RIP) vs. group fares because the original fare data hasn't been allowed to change since 1066. As much as possible everything should...

    Merseyrail Tap & Go

Entirely their problem. I hope the revenue people are better informed than that.

Are SWR's on board announcements excessive?

Sadly no improvement on the Desiros yet. And a new, terrible "sorted" announcement

Invalid bank cards permitting exits at TfL barriers

The Oyster Extension Permit that some TOCs required to be added to the card before using a Travelcard and pre-pay credit to travel outside the usual zones. SWT as was seemed very keen on these. They were free, and added at ticket machines. Very convenient :( but they didn't last long

Borough Green to Sheerness: permitted via Bromley South?

The easement text is: "Journeys from Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham Kent, Rainham Kent, Newington, Sittingbourne, Kemsley, Swale, Queenborough, Sheerness, Teynham, Faversham, Selling, Whitstable, Chestfield & Swalecliffe, Herne Bay, Birchington, Westgate and Margate to Sevenoaks, Bat & Ball...

"Will the superindendent of the line please return to the carriage depot"

This is done at London Waterloo, to test the real evacuation announcement. And when it comes nobody could possibly misunderstand the importance of it... ...which they probably do with Inspector Sänds. Amazes me how nobody seems to find that announcement jarring. I'm looking for the exit or the...

Are SWR's on board announcements excessive?

I think I'd rather hear from the guard than the automation, but not both. The alleged announcement simplification hasn't stopped them introducing even more irritating 61016 noise pollution - "that's 6 101 6" - with the introduction "THIS IS THE BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE". Er, no, it's not. And it...

Super off peak vs off peak south eastern cross London fares

YC and YU's restrictions on arriving and departing St Pancras only apply to EMR in the data, so there's no problem in the journey planners for journeys like these. They could easily be "fixed" of course...

Journey from Basingstoke (BSK) to Cambridge (CBG): is Waterloo East (WAE) to London Bridge (LBG) a valid cross London transfer?

Are you sure? My regular Southeastern to SWR fare has a Maltese Cross, although not usually needed, and it always opens the barriers at the Waterloo East bridge. As you say - absolutely no problem with that journey. It's so valid that even Paddington gateline staff would allow it.

Reading to London Terminals Season Ticket - Permitted routes with a smartcard

Even less likely to! There may be the odd glitches, the medium still doesn't matter. If a smart ticket can't be used for any valid journey, it shouldn't be enabled in the industry data to be sold that way. The message on SWR machines is, I think, a badly-worded attempt to keep you off the...

Eurostar is trying to force me to upgrade my ticket

They seem to have treated you very badly here. I was four hours late into Brussels that day and was offered €90 or 1,000 points, and the train managers were advising people with missed connections to book their own hotels and claim back later. You'd still get more back from almost all GB TOCs of...

Avanti take needless announcements to a new level

I think there's a real mixture of useful and useless on the railway. For me, putting drinks in a paper bag and listing all troublesome ingredients is a very good thing, suggesting I might be a violent fare dodger, asking me if I have an allergy that I would obviously know about and telling me...

    Brighton-London one day Thameslink travelcard??

It is indeed false - there is no operator restriction within the zones. The important thing, of course, is to make sure you stick with Thameslink from Brighton to at least East Croydon. What happens if you search for London Bridge? I can see it in Trainline, it should be everywhere.

Nicest European Train Stations you have visited

Easily one of the best! As mentioned, Toledo is lovely. A nice bar as well :). Madrid Atocha was nice and could be again, a mess at the moment. Barcelona's Estació de França is a proper station, even if you can't go to France any more.

European Train Stations you have felt most uneasy visiting

Haha yes, a little too exciting around Midi station, Nord isn't a big improvement although much easier on the eye. Central easily the best. I feel sorry for people living near Midi and the metro fiasco hasn't helped. A very Belgian situation. I think familiarity with the language and culture...

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

It's the same answer, isn't it? The fares data is where the gaps are said to be, so nobody is going to give the right answer all the time

Locked station before last working service

National Rail, TOCs and third parties all use the same information. Maybe the problem was with the timetable data.
