EMUs as a rule accelerate and brake faster than DMUs so that would give us some sped to start, then the fact that a Mersey rail EMU is going to be a new or at least newer train so it's going to be lighter and have better motors so yet more gains.
It would be nice to have as much of the...
Any idea what's restricting the speed? Line speed is an investment that never ends up redundant so no risk of wasting the funds. Getting to Birkenhead north should make the line more attractive for people to use and help build the case for electrification. "we added one stop and all these people...
I must apologise for being a part of the Friday night stampede out of central on occasion, having races up the metal bits between escalators seems like a hilarious idea at the time :p
Running into Birkenhead north would have need the track reorganising to bring all three platforms back into use I don't see how you would do it without conflicting movements.
But the benefit would be quite substantial for connectivity instead of 2tph Liverpool and 2tph west Kirby as connections...
ugh Merseyside never looks good on the tele does it. It's not usually that grim, I'm also surprised they didn't get shot of central on a Friday night some impressive stampedes out of the station toward the clubs.
Perhaps OHLE when Merseyrail get the dual voltage trains, that line would be a hell of a lot more useful if it went all the way to Liverpool. Getting it one more stop to Birkenhead north would be a huge improvement.
any anti clockwise moves on that loop also Birkenhead central and Conway park. Probably lots of diverging routes like that.
Hawden bridge to shotton low level is faster than staying aboard going to high level than walking back down i walked past hawden bridge as the train pulled in walked...
In threads about cross-rail people always mention that the stations are actually the expensive part and the tunnels are relatively less expensive.
Has connecting termini and running long distance stuff through ever been priced up? surely it would take a lot of strain off the tube and end the...
Halton curves between Liverpool and north Wales.
Okay local line post now
Borderlands line, since electrification is not happening any time soon, if Birkenhead north had platform 3 reinstated to take the Liverpool services, the Wrexham train can run into the now middle platform 2 allowing...
At this stage more third rail is pointless as the new stock due 2017 will almost certainly be capable dual pickup so we may as well have OHL.
Would be grand if the timed one or two of these logical extensions to be done just as the new stock starts to arrive send the first units on the new bits...
Getting that section to overhead lines and 125mph would do. it will require a lot of work so they may as well max out the loading gauge for the future that's the expensive part anyway.
also be nice to remove the Chester to Crewe shuttle and stick that duty onto something terminating at either...
this would be a nice project as infrastructure as stimulus, especially as it doesn't just all get spent in London.
Which is another reason it will never happen.
Would it not be viable to have a new large port with river berths only and have panamax and bellow go all the way up. anything post panamax breaks bulk here loading onto road, rail, coastal freight and river barge.
River barges are rather economical the Mersey is already moving toward such a...
Swansea is an awkward one a big part of the problem is low density low population and poor buses.
trams seem the way to go too small for local rail cant really object to those route.
A nicer link that goes centre uni mumbles would do well if you could some how get past brynmil being so bloody...
I wasn't aware of that. So surely that means there is no downside. Just heavily fine anyone who has the wrong documents. If there is CCTV at every station we can see where they came from.
That way it would be a European network with a UK spur seems that would be of more use than what exists now.
Surely there are less stations on the UK side? why not cordon off the whole lot over here and effectively have HS1 in shcengen (sp) you do boarder controls at the station if you fail back on the next train?
The only issue i see is UK to UK travel but thats going to be an issue on one end or the...
There are separate problems here though.
Crewe Warrington is on a hugely busy mainline section.
same for winsford
The other part has the issue of falling through the gaps. Ellesmere port to helsby should be handed to merrseyrail while Chester to Runcorn really wants the halton curve sorting...
If your going to have it all wavy and such you avoid thick lines and solid colour, it's not rocket science.
The capital of culture liveries Mersey rail did weren't great but they did use some design sense.
There is a rather detailed fantasy plan for Mersey rail here, almost entirely based on electrification and reopening old lines. The guy who wrote it doesn't seem to fully understand the light/ heavy rail distinction, not that I do. I may make a revised version of this at some point during the...
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
