    Nottingham 'Bus War'

I note that Stagecoach issued new coronavirus timetables effective from today. The X1 is withdrawn with various other services merged (eg 27-9 at Mansfield, 29,46,47,99 & 42,43,46,47 at Retford) or axed (eg 7 at Worksop). Interestingly Kirklington is now served every 2 hours by the 28 - before...

Trivia: Most stations served nonstop to/from any station?

I used the criteria of 'skip at least one station' as outlined in post number 2 for Leeds. Obviously if you add the 5 stations adjacent to Nottingham that takes the tally to 19.

Trivia: Most stations served nonstop to/from any station?

Nottingham: Chesterfield Alfreton Langley Mill East Midlands Parkway Loughborough Newark Castle Lowdham Derby Long Eaton Melton Mowbray Hucknall Grantham Radcliffe Bingham So a poor 14. I was amazed to find we no longer have a non stop train to Leicester. There used to be a lot more but some...

    Nottingham 'Bus War'

I boarded the R1 at lunchtime at Nuthall, it had 2 passengers on and gained 2 more at Larkfield. When I alighted at Kimberley 2 more boarded. The only bus stop queues I have seen, repeatedly, are for the 27 in Kimberley - in both directions - I couldn't work out today where the 27 queue ended...

    Nottingham 'Bus War'

Surprised to see the Rainbow 1 due Nottingham 15.25 today was a red bus, I would have thought that with running a half hourly schedule they would have had plenty of blue Rainbow 1s available! (They aren't interworking the R1 with anything else).

    Nottingham 'Bus War'

Maximum loading on any Rainbow 1 I've seen in Nuthall or Kimberley has been 5. Most only have 2 people on and that's with a half hourly frequency....

    Worst " Bus war"?

Living on the 331 route Trent withdrew a number of journeys at deregulation, these passed to numerous operators on tender including (partly), Camms Coaches, Nottingham City Transport, Derby City Transport, East Midland, Dunn-line, Pathfinder etc., there were definitely many more! During a 'lull'...

    Nottingham 'Bus War'

The Sunday timetables are now online for most routes. The rainbow 1 now starts 2 hours EARLIER on Sunday mornings - I have lived on the route 34 years and the earliest we could get into Nottingham was 8.30am in 1985, its been 8.55am for years, now its 6.35am (then to QMC) & a return at 7a.m. Why...

    Nottingham 'Bus War'

Nottsbus services are suspended from next Tuesday and are available on an 'on demand' service only. See here: https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/transport/public-transport/nottsbus-connect The 91, 136, 190, 195, 330, 332, 339, 341, 367, 856 & 857 are currently suspended. The 865 is running once...

    Nottingham 'Bus War'

Travelling back on my bike yesterday teatime I noticed empty rainbow 1s. eg the 415pm Nottingham to Alfreton via Selston had just one passenger on as it passed through Nuthall - these journeys are usually full at that time of day. The biggest issue is for those villages left with no service...

    Nottingham 'Bus War'

Nottingham City Transport details are online for changes from from tomorrow. Core routes only running: https://www.nctx.co.uk/special-timetables-wednesday-25th-march-2020 - this will lead a lot of elderly people - especially in hilly areas - with no lifeline to the shops eg on the Plains Estate...

    Nottingham 'Bus War'

Stagecoach axing all Evening and Sunday services yet seem to be maintaining Weekday daytime service levels which is surprising - e.g. - Pronto still every 10 minutes but last bus around 7pm and no Sunday service!

    Nottingham 'Bus War'

I can see them introducing a Saturday timetable on the basis that most office workers are off and education establishments closed. Possibly even a Sunday service with earlier starts....

    Nottingham 'Bus War'

Sweeping changes amongst a number of operators. Hulleys, Centrebus, Arriva, Midland Classic, Marshalls of Sutton on Trent, Stagecoach etc have all announced cuts. NCT have only altered the Uni routes - 4,31 & 34 so far.

    Worst " Bus war"?

In the early 1990s Trent Barton had competition from Delta Bus based at Kirkby in Ashfield. On what is now Trent Bartons Rainbow One route (then R10/1/2/3) Delta started by running a half hourly EVENING only service between Nottingham & Heanor numbered D10 & D11. Eventually a 20 minute daytime...

Fare Evasion, An own Goal cannot help.

A couple of months ago I boarded a train at Gainsborough Central around 1330hrs. The guard never came round (1 other passenger in my carriage) and never announced his ticket machine was broken or anything. So I had a free ride to Retford. I have since read there is a ticket machine in the Car...

You'd get my vote for Prime Minister if we get a frequency increase on the Rainbow One when Rapid goes!

If you took over East Midlands Trains, what would you do?

Extending Leicester terminators to Corby instead of Peterborough would give Corby a through link to Birmingham. Also provide improved links between the local towns.

Bus Routes With Inaccurate Destinations (Or Could Destinations That Could Be Improved/ Renamed)

I don't sorry. I'm surprised it's not commercially operated as it carries quite a few passengers. Needs some improving really - I'd make it half hourly and extend one of the journeys every hour onto Bulwell again as that section was quite popular (and would give my Estate a link to the QMC again...

Bus Routes With Inaccurate Destinations (Or Could Destinations That Could Be Improved/ Renamed)

So do I. Remember when it was all fields and the eviction of the family from Assarts Farm itself in the 90s so they could knock it down. Estate has had a lot of routes and operators over the years
