Cant Markers (was White panels on track)

Could they be prisms for total station observation, mapping track movement over time? I know a similar method is used near Condover where there's a quarry in close proximity to the railway.

When Will It All Go Wrong For The Tories/ Johnson?

Let's just say he rarely gets a welcome when he's out and about in town.

Class 153 with Network Rail Logos - Anyone have any info?

Exciting inventory by the sound of it! Had a brief spell working with RILA data a few years ago. Assume this system will also yield georeferenced point clouds?

How far away can you hear a train (in good conditions)?

I can regularly hear trains on the Welsh Marches line from the Long Mynd, often at distances in excess of 2.5 miles.

Which pubs should have a microstation?

The Station House between Marazion and Long Rock? Although they may as well 'start again' with the pub, too. Not the nicest!

Trivia; Pubs close to stations that show departure times on-screen?

The Parcel Yard in Leicester has a live departures board at the end of the bar (or did, 2014-2018).

Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

I'm not convinced anyone really needs a sense of 'adventure' in their PIS, but clear and readable screens are a must. White on black is a leading contender for most-readable combination in my experience (working outdoors with various instruments with integrated LED panels).

Train felt like it was derailing

I used to travel that route twice a week and completely agree. I was lucky enough to enjoy frequent Advance 1st fares, and 'lucky' enough to enjoy numerous coffee spillages over some of the S&C! A rare occasion where I'd advocate coffee cups with lids over china.

TRIVIA: Stations where passengers still have to cross via a level crossing or barrow crossing

Canterbury East, if you're not able to use the stairs to and from the subway, requires use of a barrow crossing at the London end of the platforms to interchange between platforms 1 and 2. I understand there are plans afoot to introduce some form of access-for-all in the near future.

TPE Mark 5A coaching stock progress

Call me a pedant, but it sounds like the voiceover mispronounces the word "escalator" as "esculator". Or am I imagining it?

    Class 175's future?

Perhaps to GWR for Cornish mainline duty, replacing the 2+4 HST sets? I'll get my coat...

FANTASY: Which services would you give night-time running to?

All intercity routes out from London to major cities. With flexible working and the "Millennial" preference for experience over material possessions, there may be a captive market for later services allowing late shifts and more socialising (concerts/gigs, sporting events).

    GWR Class 800

I'd love to try an 800 between Leicester and London. The Mark 3s on the MML offer the worst ride I've encountered on UK rail. It's a proper 'first world problem' trying to drink a cup of first class coffee, and having to consciously 'dampen' the constant 360-degree movement instead of one's lap...

Idea for junction change on St Ives Branch

Aren't they holiday lets? Could actually be quite a selling point. "Start your holiday in style abroad the Night Riviera sleeper, which will drop you right at the door at 07:45 on arrival day. We will greet you at the platform with fresh, local Cornish pastries...", etc. Could also be of...

Idea for junction change on St Ives Branch

The crowds on Long Rock Beach on a hot summer's day would beg to differ. Just ask the good folk at Jordan's Cafe. (And on a winter's day with a sou'westerly blowing, GWR could offer deals for kitesurfers and deliver them direct to the beach, ferrying them back to whence they came on the Night...

Idea for junction change on St Ives Branch

As a former local myself, I couldn't agree more. The causeway route is horrible in the summer - and the daft new one-way section doesn't help. Plus Hayle has a very long, ribbon-like town "centre" and is frequented by buses in any case. I've often said they should rebuild Marazion and get some...

Idea for junction change on St Ives Branch

I agree. I think the line could lend itself well to tram-trains with a short loop installed on the ascent heading northwest along the edge of Lelant golf course.

Idea for junction change on St Ives Branch

I actually used to 'commute' (if I dare call it that!) between Penzance and St Ives most summers for a few years. I think the interchange may actually be a useful asset once the upgrade to 2tph commences between Penzance and Plymouth. The A30 heading west between St Erth and Penzance often...

What is your controversial railway opinion/idea?

Mark 3 coaches should be removed from service at the earliest practical opportunity (e.g. once enough replacement stock is operational). I often travel with EMT in first class. It's nigh-on impossible to sip from a cup of tea without spilling it, anywhere between St Albans and Bedford ;)
