Thanks for the suggestions. Looking into Oldenburg (Holstein) I see that it's only 49 and fast trains all the way to Hannover. So I was thinking I'd go to hannover using that ticket, arriving around midnight, spend the night there, then leave on the 07:36 (another 49). Total price: 98 and...
I'm currently trying to finalise my tickets for this and I'm struggling to find anything on the cheaper end of the spectrum (early Sept).
Looking to arrive at Copenhagen mid-afternoon, which means overnighting in Germany somewhere, then taking the (somewhere)->Hamburg->Copenhagen train...
Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to travel in Finland by train price-wise?
Two people, one with a general university student id (but both aged over 25). Can we buy student a ticket? (below prices are for two Adults)
Planning something like:
Malmo -> Stockholm sleeper - this...
Oh and another one occurs to me:
* Staff standing in front of the already-too-few ticket barriers blocking them from use so they can "assist" people through gates whose tickets are being difficult.
It's not like they're blocking 20% of the egress gates while > 50 people try and get out of...
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm thinking the ferry from Helsinki to Travemünde may be the way to go. It's about 30hrs but no need to worry about connections etc.
Then it's just a matter of getting from there to Hamburg (short distance, though I'm not clear on which station in Travemünde is...
I'm wondering at what point will customer convenience stop taking second place to revenue protection.
* Yesterday morning at 08:50 I couldn't buy an Offpeak ticket from a Ticket Machine for a off-peak 09:00. So after queuing at the ticket machines, I then had to queue at the manned desk...
Any suggestions for returning by land or sea from Helsinki or Tannin (Estonia) to the UK in mid-late September?
Ideally with sleepers.
Seat61 says it's possible using a ferry to Rostok, and a sleeper from Berlin->Paris, but there doesn't seem to be any content explaining the route (...
I need to buy a whole bunch of off-peak day returns (commuting) - previously I was using quidco and first Hull trains to get 2% cashback, + nectar points, but that seems to have stopped. Any suggestions for what's the best way to buy these tickets now? (Collection at departure, paying by credit...
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for getting to Copenhagen from London in early September.
I have of course seen - http://seat61.com/Denmark.htm - but I was wondering if there are any other options - that seems like a super-slow journey given the distance.
I guess there aren't...
Ok, seems I mis-read that.
So technically if that same train were to roll up at 11am being over 2hrs later, almost no-one would be allowed to board it?
Well, the ticket has this restriction:
"Not valid on trains timed to
depart after 04:29 and before
09:00"
So according to the rules, I can get any train that leaves the station at or after 09:00.
I look forward to the inevitable arguments and penalty fare appeals with ticket inspectors...
Thanks for the thoughts. Probably going to end up doing the quidco thing, but for the new few trips it will be lots-bought-at-once-at-the-ticket-office.
So, I get an 09:00 FGW - the first offpeak train on the route for the day.
But at 09:00 today a (late) XC turns up instead. The journey length on both trains is about the same (give or take a couple of minutes)
Is my offpeak ticket valid on the XC? From a passenger's perspective it makes sense...
I was wondering, what's the best way to commute using Offpeak returns? I don't want to buy a season ticket (it's more expensive!), and nor do I want to buy a ticket every day manually.
Is there some way of buying lots of tickets at once easily?
Quick question - I just bought some tickets for machine collection and the website said to wait at least 2hrs before collection. What's the actual minimum? Can I collect them sooner than that?
Does anyone have any suggestions for ticket splitting between Bournemouth and Reading for an Anytime Single ticket (the entire journey is peak)? I'll be taking the Cross Country, no changes. Splitting at Southampton seems to take it down to around £32; is there a way to get it lower?
Thanks.
Is there a cheap way of getting from Reading to Heathrow T5? (one way, offpeak)
So far I've found:
* RDG - Heathrow t1-3 - £18.60; change at Hayes & Harlington.
* RDG - Heathrow t5 - it's a bus on the NR enquiries results, £20!!
* RDG - Heathrow T5 - via padding and heathrow express -...
Yes, but they break up the trip and add considerable connection times.
You have to get to the port, then get the ferry, then get from the ferry back to the train.
If I'm going to Europe I like to be able to take the train; it's the only environmentally responsible option. A night train would...
