    Network Rail's vegetation problem

Probably overly optimistic, although I hope I'm wrong. NR have the likes of the Woodland Trust, local Green Party organisations and a big NIMBY factor to contend with when carrying out necessary vegetation clearance.

Can fireworks cause poor railhead conditions?

This isn't a hypothesis I've ever previously heard, but the wider causes of low adhesion remain somewhat nebulous. It doesn't strike me as massively likely to be true though.

    Trivia: Station nicknames

Aylesbury Vale Parkway is often referred to as "The Parkway", or "AVP" for reasons other than the fact that happens to be its CRS code. Rickmansworth is often "Ricky". Gerrards Cross, Princes Risborough and Great Missenden are frequently abbreviated to "Gerrards", "Risborough" and "Missenden".

    Uniforms, the smartest and scruffiest?

Not much love for the current Chiltern uniform on here, but it is actually the most comfortable and best quality iteration we've had since day 1.

I'm confused as to where all the trains fit at night...

Only in exceptional circumstances; broken unit etc.

I'm confused as to where all the trains fit at night...

Pre-covid, Chiltern stabled 2 x 2-car 165s in the bay platform at High Wycombe on weekday nights. Still happens occasionally when required owing to engineering possessions etc.

    HS2 construction updates

I thought the Northolt tunnels were being bored in the southbound direction from West Ruislip?

    Trivia: Easily confused station names

Aylesbury and Aylesford - I've known those two to be confused with each other in the past.

When does 'up' become 'down' and vice versa?

Also Chiltern services from Oxford to Marylebone run on the Down Bletchley as far as Gavray Junction.

Autumn refresh for GWR Class 165/166 Turbos

I'm quite shocked at the state of the pictured units. I had no idea thay had got so bad. They are in a far worse state than the Chiltern 165s despite IIRC the GWR units having been refurbished/refreshed more recently.

Unplanned bit of track-bashing (passengers overcarried on Empty Coaching Stock working)

Surprising or not, I can confirm it is the case at at least one (unnamed) TOC.

Unplanned bit of track-bashing (passengers overcarried on Empty Coaching Stock working)

I expect someone else can explain it better than me, but it is the standard diciplinary procedure following a breach of the rules or cash regulations. It involves a formal charge, a hearing etc. Implications could range from exoneration to dismissal.

Unplanned bit of track-bashing (passengers overcarried on Empty Coaching Stock working)

That is the official procedure, and if followed it pretty much eliminates the issue of overcarrying pax. The down side is it can be slow, for example if going through a train made up of three separate non-gangwayed units. However, if the company is happy to shoulder and delays incurred (they...

Unplanned bit of track-bashing (passengers overcarried on Empty Coaching Stock working)

Instant Form 1 at our place now if pax are overcarried into sidings or left on an ECS working.

I chose not to board the train at the nearest door and it left without me

Moving back to the original question, I would kind of go for "got what you deserved" but I personally would word it a little less harshly. "Sadly inevitable given your actions" maybe. As a DOO driver I certainly try to take into account things like service frequency from a station when deciding...

Could Class 800s be cleared into Marylebone / Waterloo, to enable diversions as required in future?

Cheers. Yes, that would indeed rule out MYB for 9 car sets.

    Environmentalists vs trains

Not enough IMO, but until HS2 is in place the railway can't really handle any significant modal shift so the point is moot. It will certainly need government policy to be behind it in order to succeed. Legislation to ban domestic air travel on routes that are covered by HSR would be a start.

Could Class 800s be cleared into Marylebone / Waterloo, to enable diversions as required in future?

Are IET vehicles longer than 23 metres? All the platforms at MYB except P4 can take 9 23 metre card cars. Platform 3 can take 10, and platform 2 can take 10 in exceptional circumstances
