Northern Barnsley-> hudds 19.03 delayed 45 mins. Numerous cancellations at hudds on TPE and delays on Northern. All seemingly due to crew shortages from other services.
(delay repay might be my friend)
What is causing this, are crews being diagrammed too tightly?
Every passenger should be given a good service. Supposed VIP's should get the same treatment as any passenger according to whether they have a second or first class ticket that they have paid for.
Whilst I have never believed HS2 will actually get north of Birmingham, beating in mind how slow the journey is between say Leeds or Manchester and Brighton, why does pretty much everything stop in London and require complex tube journeys? I am aware that there was a historical act of parliament...
The speed, lack of sharp acceleration and decelaration as performed by bus and coach drivers in traffic, reliability, timekeeping, passenger information and most importantly comfort with room to stretch ones legs!
Perhaps this technology will eventually make it possible to keep the interior of trains in a better condition. Northern's 142's could have done with all sorts of new interior fittings many years ago to make them presentable.
Like your extra station, but how about "Horbury for Ossett" as the station name and make it a mini parkway? Wakefield road both towards Wakefield and Huddersfield is the location of enumerable speed cameras, so it might encourage commuters.
I can see that if HS2 phase1 is built before anything in the north (phase2 / NPR) because it's fairly spade ready, then it is likely to go way over even the latest budget and the stuff in the north will get canned. The reason it's likely to go even more over budget is they nearly always discover...
I am a little concerned that there seems to be little reaction to the projected up to 5 years delay on phase 1, as we keep being told on here that the capacity shortfall is serious and resolution urgent - so how will the existing railway cope, especially as even the new timescales may yet fail...
This 'first bears the cost' situation is clearly awkward. I would suggest that the Government create a climate change department with its own budget to cover all aspects thereof (ie road. rail etc). Electrification projects would come out of that budget, on merit, rather than the transport budget.
"Then you have the problem that if you do cut HS2 when there really are no seats in a train which would have benefited from HS2 and an opposition party leader has to stand/sir in the floor?!"
... It'll be several years before any Govt minister has to stand up and say there's a capacity problem...
