Trivia: Current services where the train reverses ends, mid-journey.

The Worthing portion of the 00:02 ex Victoria reverses at Brighton. When there's overnight work between Keymer Junction and Lewes, the Eastbourne portion also reverses at Brighton (the train divides there instead of Haywards Heath). I think there are still one or two stopping...

GTR Electrostar refurbishments: 377s and 387s

Here's a video of both 377 401 & 430. Happily it answers my question RE: announcements. They are still the same, and the PIS looks really good.

GTR Electrostar refurbishments: 377s and 387s

Ah, no worries pal. Looking forward to seeing it myself! Has the front/back destination screen been modified? Or I am just seeing things?

GTR Electrostar refurbishments: 377s and 387s

Have the audio announcements changed to match the updated PIS screens?

    Remaining DOO disputes?

Isn't it the case at certain TOCs (I've certainly seen it on Southern) that trains won't actually pull into a platform it's not due to call at whilst the starter signal has not cleared? This applies to both ECS and passenger services. Obviously, this would be difficult to do on a curved...

    Remaining DOO disputes?

I think that's essentially what happens, yeah. At every station, the OBS will key on, step off the train, check the PTI for any passengers requiring assistance, either assist them, or, if there's no one there, step back on, key off and resume onboard duties. GTR claimed that freeing up the OBS...

    Gatwick works service reductions

They've reduced it to just one during off-peak hours. The Ore - Victoria - Ore service.

    Trains Obfuscated

Thanks for the replies. I have always wondered about the scrambling of headcodes, but it does make sense now.

    Trains Obfuscated

I don't understand why headcodes are obfuscated for routine passenger workings though. For instance, 1F04 London Victoria - Eastbourne & Ore is as it appears on a Monday and, as such, specific timings are shown in RTT (https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/C23654/2021-02-15/detailed) ; BUT...

Remaining Class 365s leaving GN - What next for the 365s?

Send all the GX 387s to GN and bring back the 442s

GTR Electrostar refurbishments: 377s and 387s

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with this. Also, the PIS announcements in the newer systems seem to be a lot slower. Hopefully this isn't the case in the refurbs.

Performing shunts using ground position signals

Yeah, they did a good job of upgrading Lewes. And now I believe that terminating services from Brighton can arrive on platform 4 as a result of the upgrade? Handy if 5 is out of use.

Future of Newhaven Marine and Harbour Stations?

I think there's been a loco berthed in Lewes Up Siding for the past few days, so it may have been that.

Not a good day on GTR Southern & Thameslink (26/01)

It's at Three Bridges, not Haywards Heath. 3 in a week is terrible. My thoughts are with all involved.

Performing shunts using ground position signals

There used to be GPLs at the Eastbourne end of platforms 2 and 4 at Lewes, which signalled a fair few passenger trains that couldn't proceed north towards London/west towards Brighton respectively. As of a couple of years ago, these are no longer in use.

Not a good day on GTR Southern & Thameslink (26/01)

As the title suggests, SN and TL services are facing major disruption due to various incidents across the network, including: a person hit by a train at Billingshurst; a person hit by a train at Balcombe; a 700 with a locked wheel axle, preventing the train from continuing without (what I think...

I'm confused as to where all the trains fit at night...

I remember there being a 171 berthed overnight at Uckfield - IIRC due to engineering works - a few years ago. GTR had to employ a security guard to protect the unit as a result of the station's 24/7 openness.

GTR Electrostar refurbishments: 377s and 387s

Will the announcements remain the same? I ask because of the shift towards informal announcements that TOCs seem to be making, mainly on platforms. For instance, the Phil Sayer announcements were far clearer and flowed a lot better than what we have now. The current announcements on 377s are...

GTR Electrostar refurbishments: 377s and 387s

I think the 'Thank you NHS' livery on 377 111 is close to what a 377 exterior refresh would look like (obviously, minus the NHS wording). Can't wait to see photos of 377 430's interior.

GTR Electrostar refurbishments: 377s and 387s

Agreed. The 377s have very clear announcements and display systems currently, so hopefully the upgrade only improves this.
