It will change as the OV-chipkaart shall cease to exist in 2027. The OVpas will become the way to rent a OV-fiets, actually the instructions for the electronic lock are already referring to the OVpas on some bikes.
It's not yet available, but the OVpas will become available as a digital card to have on you phone as well.
That's actually also the best solution for things like monthly caps and discount products should you want to use your phone to check in. As banks regularly change digital credit-/debit...
OVpay offers three basic types of products: Basis, Voordeel and Max.
Basis is just the standard fare without discounts
Voordeel are products that offer an increasing discount depending on how much you've travelled (for example 10% for the first € 10, then 40% for the next € 60, etc.) or a fixed...
Depends on what you call a long way ;) At route 120 Abcoude is still in the Utrecht province (bordering Amsterdam) and at route 350 Rhenen is still in Utrecht province (bordering Wageningen). Only at 307 there is a municipality in between (and at 395 multiple municipalities).
Route 80 offers the...
Nothing vague about that. It applies on all U-OV routes, also parts outside Utrecht province, and not at any other routes except 85 in Veenendaal which is jointly operated by RRReis and U-OV.
Notable is that it only works with OVpay, not the OV-chipkaart. The 10 euro daily cap works automatically for everyone, for the monthly cap of € 100 you'll need to register for free.
Additionally there is also the DalVrij product which costs € 30 per month and also reduces the monthly cap by 30...
Certainly agree with that, the lake side in Locarno is incredibly scenic. Also worth noting that restaurants in Locarno are generally more affordable (though still Swiss prices) than for example in Lugano.
Had an excellent pizza here with a view at the lake when I passed by Locarno a few years ago.
Believe this mainly had to do with a tunnel just before where the Betuweroute connects to the line from Arnhem. Otherwise they could have continued German 15 kV across the border and have a single changeover.
And to add to that: on the Maastricht to Liège line, the changeover from 1,5 kV to 3...
I'd also be curious why they apparently store your ID information on their servers as they don't need it for anything. The ID-number is only required in case of a ticket check, to compare with your ID, so could also be stored locally.
And at least they should delete it after a pass has expired...
Those two stations are also special as they are managed by SBB though on German soil.
Similar but the other way round is the from Singen to Basel which passes through Switzerland around Schaffhausen. The stations to the west of Schaffhausen are however managed by DB despite the first few stops...
Was in Hamburg last autumn and actually didn't even bother looking what the price for singles was as an AB day ticket is so damn cheap.
Pro tip: HVV gives a discount on tickets bought in the app or as e-ticket, so a day ticket via the DB app only cost me € 7,25.
I've totally missed the former Karlsruhe trams on the Orbe - Chavornay railway in Switzerland last year, despite having been very nearby. Not realising it was actually the last year they ran.
That's still done in the Netherlands. In addition the information is nowadays also shown on the information displays on the train and above the train composition on the departure boards.
To add to Bemined: The exact effect of the holiday timetable for local transport in the Netherlands is very dependent on where you want to travel.
There are routes where only the frequency in the peak is reduced, but other routes in the same region may also have lower off-peak frequencies. And...
There's also a nice example of how buses and trains can exist next to eachother in the Netherlands by the way. NS vetoed a direct bus from Amersfoort Centraal to the Utrecht Science Park for a long time, leading to an intensive lobby by Utrecht province as they wanted to relieve Utrecht Centraal...
Similarly there are combined Eurostar trains which run Amsterdam - Paris Nord / Marne-la-Vallée-Chessy. But these are also quite clearly distinguishable by the carriage number on the required reservation.
In the Netherlands it really depends on the local situation what happens.
A specific case which came to mind when seeing this topic was Breukelen: as of December 14th, 2008 the Sprinter service between Breukelen and Utrecht had it's frequency increased to every 15 minutes. At the same date bus...
Like I wrote a few posts up: just enter Basel - Cologne in the journey planner at bahn.de, scroll down to the option to add stopovers and add one in Koblenz with a duration of 0 hours.
When subsequently clicking "plan journey" you'll get options with a change in Mannheim (loco hauled IC along...
No, they actually introduced some new through trains with the new timetable. And several through trains now have a longer stop in Basel to compensate for delays.
In addition to the ICs there are also several ICEs via the scenic route along the Rhine, though the ICs might be the better option as these offer a decent connection towards Basel in Mannheim.
These will not appear in the DB journey planner without additional inputs due to being much slower...
