Class 350/2s to replace 323s on Northern

Presumably by the time they enter service, they’ll be in GBR livery - there was a mock-up for what a Desiro U.K. would look like in the GBR livery when the GBR livery was launched - so will this be the first full fleet that’s new to an operator to get the GBR livery?

    Cambridge South new station opening

In the case of Cambridge South in particular though, there are no troughs (as there used to be at Cambridge main station pre-refurbishment), or any other kind of urinals (as there are at Cambridge main station post-refurbishment) - every toilet is a single-person self-contained cubicle...

    Cambridge South new station opening

I’m surprised how few toilets there are at the station - on one side, there’s 1 male, 1 female, and 2 accessible (1 of which is a Changing Places toilet), plus a separate baby changing room. On the other side, there’s just 1 accessible toilet. All are single-person cubicles. Cambridge main...

Will the 810 involved in the Bedford crash be repaired or partly replaced?

Presumably 810 015 is insured - would the payout from it be enough to cover enough of the cost to Rock Rail/EMR to finance the cost of a replacement unit? I suppose a new contract with Hitachi would have to be drawn up for a new unit, though.

    Another thread about TOPS...

Presumably it was the operators who wanted a new class number each time to make their trains seem different from the others, so now there will be a single operator, there won’t be that motivation.

    Another thread about TOPS...

I suppose it’ll revert back to how it used to be fairly soon, with re-nationalisation, with the exception of the open access and non-English operators.

Apparently Chiltern staff also said that Winslow is exposed and would be freezing in the winter - is this a problem with new station design? Is it a post-COVID thing, to be open for maximum ventilation, but at lower cost than air conditioning an enclosed space?

    Cambridge South new station opening

I don’t know anything about competition, and this might not apply because the station is Network Rail and not on the Biomedical Campus itself, but there’s already a M&S Food in the food court in the main hospital building, as well as a couple of other small convenience stores, one also in the...

Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

The extra bit on the middle cars looks separate to the rest of it, so I guess it can just be removed or added separately as necessary without having to re-do the entire carriage - like when TOCs changed hands and names in the past, a small section of vinyl was just put on top over the old name...

Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

If so, then that will be different to the original design, which had angular-U-shaped red lines on the middle coach: https://railm.blob.core.windows.net/website/1/root/gbr-train-livery-1_w960.jpg This is perhaps shown more clearly on this image of the Hornby model, which is already on sale for...

Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

Is there any collated list of which fleets around the country are already currently undergoing re-paint under their current TOCs, and so which we might expect a member of to emerge in GBR livery? Such as with c2c’s Class 357s.

    Cambridge South new station opening

The Colleges, which own land in Cambridge and which objected to the original Cambridge railway station, are independent of the central University, and would have been more powerful back then, I imagine. They were concerned that their students would have easy access to London to visit there for...

    Cambridge South new station opening

Interesting to see the first person quoted refer to the first existing station as Cambridge Central. Reading the interviews and watching the video version, it struck me that it’s true in terms of convenience - I've moved away from Cambridge now, but I used to work in a lab which was based in the...

    Cambridge South new station opening

I do like the phone charging point, which is thoughtful to include, though it looks like there’s only one plug for 2 shelves (I guess the intention must be for just 1 phone on 1 shelf a time, at different heights, or someone having a charger with them which has multiple ports on it, and sharing...

    Cambridge South new station opening

Are those biscuits not forming a bay platform, such as at Cambridge North or Cambridge, rather than any of the through platforms at Cambridge South? I suppose for the official opening, you’ll have a Colin the Choo-Choo Caterpillar wrapped in GBR livery, rather than what looks like a kettle!

2024 Tube Stock (Siemens Inspiro London)

I suppose this means that 2024 Stock will have to do gauging runs along that section of the Jubilee? By the time the Central and W&C lines’ stock gets replaced, it’s probably time for the 1996 Stock to be replaced soon anyway, given how late the 1992 Stock replacement is running, so I suppose...

    Cambridge South new station opening

The wood and solar panel canopies are very nice. The wood surprised me a bit - I didn’t know that it would be used. Why was wood chosen? For environmental and/or weight reasons? Metal rusts, and concrete is now known to be not as long-lasting as first thought, so perhaps wood is coming back into...

I can’t say I’m a fan of the flag being plastered all over everything, like the water refill point and ticket barriers. Contrasts quite a lot with the plain signage. Oh Lord, hopefully this won’t lead to a situation with Hobson’s Park like with Addenbrooke’s Hospital being called “Addenbrookes”...

Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

Someone who worked on the Cambridge South project posted that although the station opened today as scheduled, the opening ceremony has been post-poned due to the Bedford train crash: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/cambridge-south-new-station-opening.141520/page-55#post-7839056 So we may...

Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

I wonder if they’ll do anything to the interior of the Class 357 - the other Class 357s which have had their bodywork done and re-liveried haven’t had any special cleaning to their interiors at all. Were the Class 387 and Class 701 which were re-liveried given a deeper clean to their interior...
