Also ECML in a mess again today - signalling issues most of the day at Peterborough. But few forum members post about it.
A variety of issues every week, from trespasses to track or train defects, and signalling or OHLE issues. I have luckily dodged these in recent weeks, colleagues have been...
That applies under Absolute Block for the front portion of a divided train where there is a risk of the rear portion colliding (i.e it's on a downward gradient), and said rear portion cannot be diverted to another line or siding somewhere in rear. It still requires line clear to be obtained from...
Let's face it, for most people the smell of a steam engine in the station is way more pleasant than a diesel. Unless you're a a petrol-head (diesel-head?), of course.
And at rest, a well managed steam loco is much more peaceful than a diesel, which goes a long way towards "platform appeal". Out...
Talking with a Dutch rail industry customer recently (after travelling via Belgium), I was informed that Belgian trains have strict operational language rules: a radio/phone conversation must begin in the defined language for that area (French or Flemish). If both parties agree they can switch...
+1
I shall look out for what I can see on the return journey tomorrow morning.
Hopefully none of yesterday's disruption - we saw (through the workshop windows) Eurostars passing through Roosendaal towards Belgium early afternoon, which apparently only happens when the highspeed line is not...
To contribute an opposite, a candidate for the *least* interesting border might have been a couple of hours ago, from Belgium to Holland on the train between Essen & Roosendaal. I blinked and missed the border - there us nothing at all to show the change!
But today operation is "interesting"...
On a point of pedantry... splitting and joining is historically chosen as an operational efficiency, saving running multiple trains (with multiple locos and crews) all the way to/from London. If the splits are more expensive today, do you not think they would have been abandoned?
Of course...
The original capsule returned ECS so counts as cancelled gor passenger service... their delayed return was on a capsule provided by another operator ;)
And there were some freight services carrying supplies that arrived & departed in the interim. Possibly also a fully booked passenger capsule...
Thought something like that.
Definitely not all to time, lots of Nottongham-Cardiff services cancelled.
A bad day for CrossCountry, this the only one their fault!
- lineside incident lunchtime in Bristol, blocking all lines Stapleton Road
- points failure at Westerleigh junction blocking Dn...
Looks like a major fault on a CrossCountry train at Tamworth, blocking the Down since early this morning, and now expected to be there until mid evening. All the more surprusing when you realise it is one if the closest stations to Burton Rivers RSMD, where much CrossCountry stock is...
Looked to have a good takeup on Sunday. The train looked & sounded excellent from my vantage point (particularly liked the conflat with container chained down). Excellent to have another good reason to run regular freight, and keep that part of railway heritage alive.
The Severn Valley Railway has a main line connection at Kidderminster that has seen fairly regular use. it hasn't really ever closed - SVR has had a main line network connection at one point or another (Alveley, Foley Park, Bewdley). Most movements reported seem to be ECS, engineering and light...
Ony flaw I can see is always having enough stamps for 80+ kg of me on my person at 0100... i hate to think of being retained in the sorting centre for payment of excess postage. Would my wife pay up?
Indeed.
In the relatively short time since I qualified as a heritage railway signalman, I have on at least 3 occasions had to insist on putting T2 protection in for minor works temporarily affecting the line in station limits. In many cases the PIC will insist that 'it'll only take 10 minutes...
Hmm indeed, if talking about Wabtec UK or even just Doncaster.
Worth noting that globally, Wabtec Group are one of the largest rail component and service suppliers, owners of many rail brands and including Faiveley, Annax and others.
The UK Doncaster operation was AIUI initially a wagon repair...
This is quite a common safe working method. E.g. at Loughborough GCR we have to rely on the Guard (or Traffic Manager) reporting train complete. In this case the box is some distance beyond the platform, nearly at the shed. It is a duty of traincrew when arriving in a loop or siding on absolute...
Of course, that is a risk if the circuits energise separately...but a bit of design thought (ie. control and status interlocking) could reduce the risk.
e.g. if the sander actuation line is actually 'sander inhibit' when energised, then a control logic can be derived which only activates...
Historicaly, the way to make such a recovery would have been to jack the vehicle up a little, with stabilising ropes/cables as required to prevent overturning. Then insert temporary track to the siding under the safely supported vehicle (by hand...), lower onto this track, and haul it away onto...
