I'm looking to book Rail & Sail tickets for a trip from South Wales to Dublin via Holyhead in February next year. None of the booking engines appear to have availability beyond the timetable change in early December (they show times, but tickets are unavailable to book). However tickets are...
These are nice to have, but as things are, there is a high chance of turning up with your first class ticket and expectation of a three course meal, but in reality you end up wedged in the doorway of a 2 car 150.
As TT-ONR-NRN says, it shouldn't be too difficult to fit out a 175 with half a...
Maybe since nobody else seems to be interested in the 175s, tfw could take them back on a bargain basement lease! No issues with staff training there. Put 5 cars on Manchester-Swansea and ditch the unreliable and expensive MK4 sets. Then move 197s to Wrexham-Bidston to see the other unreliable...
Most people waiting for the 1639 Swansea (like me) didn't even bother attempting to board as the GWR was only a couple of minutes behind. The 1703 Carmarthen is always a busy service, made worse by the fact the previously regular 3 car 175 is now booked a 2 car 197. Hopefully we will see more...
Impressed to hear that the new control centre is now providing signalling for trains on the Treherbet line. They do know the line is closed for at least another 6 months? Don't they...
There was a plan for a half-hourly service that involved a loop at Llangynwd (north of Tondu, near the paper mill) as the Tondu loop was deemed too far south. That plan was shelved pending electrification due to capacity on the main line, but then electrification was cancelled too! Timekeeping...
5 car sets have 4 in total, 2 in coach B and 2 in coach D (at the ends adjacent to coach C).
9 car sets have 10 in total, 2 in coach B (end adjacent to coach C), 2 in coach D (end adjacent to coach G), 4 in coach J (end adjacent to coach H) and 2 in first class coach K (end adjacent to coach...
The obvious solution is to split the Manchester - West Wales services at Cardiff (which has already been done every other hour anyway). The Fishguard / Milford services could then leave Cardiff around 20/25 mins later. Westbound return workings need not be impacted as there is around 40mins...
The addition of a second service every hour serving stations between Cardiff and Bridgend is a big improvement. Likewise increasing the Swanline service to hourly, which looks well timed to run shortly behind GWR trains in both directions. Hopefully both will tap in to latent demand.
However...
On Bridgend station listened in to a conversation between a couple of Silurian Security staff (only ever seen them at Cardiff Central previously) and a local who they seemed to know. The local lady was complaining about apparent flouting of mask wearing rules on her train from Maesteg earlier in...
First trip on TfW last Friday since mid-March and far more busy than I expected (albeit it was a Friday afternoon). 2-car 175 around 70-80% seats taken from Bridgend all the way to Carmarthen, plus some standing. A delayed Paddington to Swansea would have contributed to loadings between Bridgend...
6 car formations not unusual on late night services to Rhymney, but with 2 or 4 cars locked out, will stable there for services early next morning. As far as I'm aware no 6 car services have ever used the extended platforms in Rhymney or Treherbert services with all 6 in use. I stand to be...
Thanks Grizzly
We are planning to leave early as we would rather spend more time in York. Plan A to get off at Newport and take the replacement bus via Hereford. If Newport looks chaotic with long queues then we can take advice before getting the XC to see if it would be permitted and then go...
Point taken re the split points. I did ask about validity in the OP, I suppose what I really meant was what would you expect to be permitted in disruption like this? Although tickets are marked for booked train only and TfW only, TfW have already advertised that passengers may travel at earlier...
Thanks both. OK, assuming the line is still closed at Hereford we'll aim to connect onto the 0700 XC from Cardiff which goes direct to Man Picc anyway and should give us plenty of time to pick up our booked 1135 York train. Fingers crossed everything will be back up and running as normal again...
Hello All,
First time post here and hoping the knowledgeable forum members can give some advice. I have pre-booked tickets to travel from Bridgend South Wales to York (via Manchester) this coming Friday. Due to the flood damage between Abergavenny and Hereford I am looking at my alternatives...
