The "turning of a blind eye" doesn't happen now on the railways but it did frequently once upon a time. REPs over the ton down the hill to Winchester, 47s on the ECML doing crazy speeds when substituting for deltics on the D280 turns, the Old Oak Common 130 club, and countless others.
Although the limit on the mains at Reading was higher back in the day - can't remember exactly what now but 80 rings a bell on the up through possibly 75 on the DM. The 50mph limit appeared about 25 or so years ago.
That tells you all you need to know about the accuracy of many of the routes on TS2016, indeed the whole track layout at Earlswood is wrong as both sets of Fast/Slow crossovers are missing.
You're wrong about Earlswood. The 80mph limit on the fasts starts to the north of the station and the slow lines have a 75mph limit which starts to the south of the station.
This thread is bizarre.
Going flat out, 0 to 125 mph for an unmodified F10 is about 14s and 50 to 90 mph is about 4s.
I'd have thought that an HST driver who happened to be an F10 owner would know that it's not even close.
No doubt however reports suggest that 43160 is to be repaired at considerable expense after its prang at Plymouth. That suggests its owners believe it has rather more than scrap value.
Remind me. Was it last week or the week before that the ole between Farringdon and Elstree was isolated in the evening peak due to an individual found riding on a freight train?
I appreciate the technical advantages of ole but it is not wholly free from its own reliability, weather and...
On the large LMR PSB installations of the 60s and 70s, a (usually stencil) route indication prefixed with an X meant the route read to a LOS. Still plenty of examples of this around particularly on the ex LMR parts of the northern WCML
And Electrostars and other modern emus have the major advantage of having 3 phase ac motors. These react much better than dc motors when wheel slip occurs.
Not sure if it's been mentioned or even if it's true but someone told me recently that alternate GatEx's are to be extended to Brighton all day "soon" (? December). If that does indeed happen then these muddy waters will presumably get muddier
Another issue with the 456 toilets was that they did not have trace heaters fitted to the toilet tanks when built due to a spec oversight. This meant that the water could and did freeze in winter resulting in burst feeder pipes and consequent damage to the unit. The "solution" was to drain the...
