Westlink - Demand Responsive Transport (West of England Combined Authority)

A journey which does deviations to drop passengers off as required is still likely to be quicker for those furthest away than one which calls at all points on a fixed route. As long as the vehicle has capacity for all intending passengers, i don't percieve it as a problem. The publicity for the...

Westlink - Demand Responsive Transport (West of England Combined Authority)

This has been partially proven by Westlink. Unfortunately, every situation where Westlink generates a full bus involves home to school movements, several of which have previously been operated commercially before the Combined Authority introduced their fares package. For my money, the Ember...

Westlink - Demand Responsive Transport (West of England Combined Authority)

You also need to remember that the West of England Combined Authority has taken over the role of the registrar for bus services in their region and now make up the rules and exceptions to suit themselves and whatever self made chaos they find themselves in.

So who actually owns the defunct TootBus brand now? First? RATP? Somebody else?

I believe it is running M-S to a revised route on all journeys which is Pensford - Chews - Sutton - Harptrees - Compton Martin - Ubley in both directions. I think the first wave of info to BODS was wrong and has been pulled.

I believe X10 is three vehicles. I've never much managed to make sense of how it works as a service. Did Severnside have it at one point? Newport had a stint on 207 as well, i think. I believe it's only a short term contract with Stagecoach, so perhaps we'll see another name on the list before...

The Combined Authority has now published a list of all service changes from April. No great surprises, but just to confirm the key indie service changes: 2V/40/99/P1/X91/Y8 from Big Lemon to Eurocoaches. 20 (Bath, Big Lemon) Timetable change to improve reliability. 25 (Bristol) has been...

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

Many years ago (and we're talking Transit or very early Merc 709 era here, if my memory serves me correctly), there was an early morning service numbered 888 which did a short loop around the Worle estates and connected them to Worle Station. There was no demand for bus connections to Worle...

Sort of. The 500 series was always Bristol City Council's urban routes. As WEMCA was formed primarily of Bristol staff and working practices, the idea of putting 5xx service numbers for "new" tendered services was widespread in the 2023 tenders, regardless of where they operated. Of all the...

Trivia: UK bus stations not fit for purpose

I might get accused of political axe grinding here, but in for a penny... Weston-super-Mare's current incarnation (opened 2022, i think) of a "bus station" is abysmal. The already bleak town centre has died on it's backside since it opened because buses no longer stop anywhere near the main...

It is, but the overall service from Kingswood to the Centre is maintained. Currently we have 4x43, 2x41 and 1x42 giving 7 per hour. The new timetables will have 2x43, 2x42, 2x41 and 1x18. The reduction of 43 shorts to Warmley is also countered by the extension of the 41.

73 is withdrawn through these changes. 45 replaces over the 51/92 stretch. The Centre - UWE end is not replaced.

Parts of it are true. Parts of it are partially correct. Parts of it are absolute BS, in particular the X6a and 18 information. The fabricator of that email is a liability and should not be trusted.

I think the other 61 plate Sprinter which has to date never tracked is now identifying as an electric Solo.

I appreciate that we haven't yet seen any schedules for what is happening from April, but given that we're expecting to see cuts rather than improvements in most areas, i find this prospect of the 43 becoming a circular rather unlikely.

That's an excellent question. The most recent version of the contract that i have (2024, may have ince been updated*) only mentions cash once and that is in regard to Metrobus services. Operators are obliged to have working card payment systems (Schedule A7: Contractors must be equipped to take...

I'd be surprised if 19 were to be cut back so soon after WECA started putting money in to it to push it to half hourly. If there were savings required on it, perhaps those savings should be focused on the Bath to Warmley or Kingswood section of it, as the demand in the city area looks much...

I think it very much depends on what level of support is retained for bus services in the area. If funding is kept in place for services such as 17 and 522, then the depot perhaps looks viable. I can see it perhaps taking some of the strain off Wells depot as well, although if the rumoured axe...

16 is interesting. From my observations, it loads reasonably well between Fishponds and Kingswood, Redfield and the Centre and the Centre and Knowle West. I would suggest the dead weight on it is around Kingsway and Whitchurch. There's certainly no reason for it to drag around Windways Estate in...

I believe that the only reason the service has changed ownership on BusTimes is because FWOE put their ticket machines on the vehicles in place of the BBC ones from day one.
