I was on the sleeper to and from Inverness last weekend (excellent journey despite the ageing stock BTW) and in the lounge bar conversation led to the strange story of Geoffrey Howe's trousers - nothing like that has happened to me though (thankfully!)...
I seem to remember there was a "Q" diagram (runs when required) on the Southern in the late seventies where they used an old unit to move stores about. I was a guard at Fratton at the time, but every time I was due to work it from Barnham, it never ran so I can't tell you any more about it
No - it is completely separate (they use opposite sides of the same platform with a short run round loop on the C&W side) - there isn't even a access point, any visiting locos are delivered by road to Wallingford.
