Christmas Love it or hate it

Christmas really is what you make of it. The shops are full pointless crap, being purchased by the irritating unwashed masses, all year round. Christmas is no different. Pick out the bits you like and enjoy em.

'Friend' needs some legal advice (not railway related)

Everyone has the right to expect protection from persecution of any kind. If the individuals have been suspended from school, then there is clearly third party support against them, but what is your friend hoping to achieve from further pursuit. If the police can't assist without parental...

    Imagine If

Is there a pub? If so, thats where I'd be. 24 hours with none of the above, sounds abit like the airport leg of a package holiday.

    Weddings and children

Doesn't sound like something a friend would ask to be honest, especially as its not a blanket ban on kids. In your shoes, I really couldn't do it. Be Best Man to a guy that snubbed my boy.

Christmas Love it or hate it

I am far from being Christian, but to me its mostly about Family, Friends, Parties, Feasts, overindulgence, time off work, and for the little ones, the magic of Santa. I used to dread xmas, the pressures on time and money to do things, buy things and be places I had no interest in, until I...

    Work

You have to customise your CV/Application to the position you're applying for. If you're applying to be a shelf stacker, list the qualities that make you the ideal person to stack their shelves, and not someone they will need to replace, at a cost, before you've even had chance to clock in...

"Train doors may close 30 seconds before departure" - what a nonsense

I can't, but I'm not making that assumption. You can't be certain that those 'just missing' the train aren't just arriving incredibly early for the next one either. What is certain though, is that you can ascertain nothing about an individual's character by their ability to catch a train.

"Train doors may close 30 seconds before departure" - what a nonsense

How can you be sure that 99.9% of people at the station didn't 'just' miss the earlier train and were therefore early for the next one by default?

"Train doors may close 30 seconds before departure" - what a nonsense

Sometimes. You can really feel the love on this site, its almost as though some members have never ever met a single decent human being to counteract that hatred toward others. Buying a coffee and a paper isn't the mark of the irresponsible for goodness sake. 30 seconds is not just missing...

    Speed Limit up to 80mph

Unless they swap the windows... The biggest danger I find on the motorways is reckless slow driving. A couple of near misses where I've nearly rear-ended a car doing 40-50ish while I've been doing 70-80ish. You just don't expect to encounter someone going that slowly and by the time you've...

    Morecambe Electrification Bid

If the ultimate aim is a 100% electrified railway, how is this pointless? I'd even go so far as to say that not wiring it now is guaranteed to become one of those 'wasted opportunities' that everyone here likes to moan about. Stock availability aside, converting the Lancaster -...

Will Winter be as bad as last year?

I have a feeling that we're in for a few white winters, like those that were the norm not 20 years ago. The ability to "work" from home though is critical if we have a repeat of the last two winters. Consider the options: Heavy snow, in the dark, on the Motorway, or, Frozen points...

Which is worse - violent media or alcohol?

Alcohol does cause problems, but the societal issues of violent wankerism is more a symptom of emotional damage than a beer too many. Likewise, failure to spot the satirical value of a game which lets you mug a whore to get your money back, is a symptom of a damaged individual and not a...

    HS2 - register your support.

True, but they are extensions/improvements to existing Public Transport nonetheless and should be included to counter the perception that HS2 is at the expense of all other projects.
