Easier than that, they're on eBay for £10. Some used, others 'new'. The modified battery insert also for sale.

Yes I've noticed an increase on units I've seen around London terminals.
Do control teams log with BTP to ensure a crime is recorded, or is it simply washed off at soonest convenience without further ado?
Went one stop on 455810 today. It has new doors buttons on the exterior and a much louder hustle alarm. Was only on it briefly but nothing about the seating/covers struck me as any different.
Thanks. I did wonder if something was missing. Was alarmed at the prospect places like Streatham Hill would go down to 4tph and no link from the Crystal Palace line to Norwood.
Thats too simplistic a way to look at it. The sooner the HSTs go, the sooner you get lumbered with Bi-modes for 30 years. Would it not be better for the MML to hedge it bets for a while longer. If the economics for overhead electrification look healthier in five to ten years time, then there...
The various rolling stock options for the MML are analysed in the latest Modern Railways by Ian Walmsley. Worth a read.
The MK3 don't necessarily have to be scrapped come 2020 if not modified in time. They could be granted a derogation (time limited I suspect).
South London centric post:
Digging a bit deeper into what's been uploaded on RTT so far, it seems some parts of south London are in for a rough deal (compared to what's currently provided, before any northern comrades shoot me down!).
Gone are the London Vic - Crystal Palace - Norwood Junc -...
Passengers (at least the regular commuter types) are used to seeing signs stating 'doors close up to 30 seconds before departure'. I have little sympathy if their train rolls out 10-20 seconds early I'm afraid. Being on time at key flat junctions and keeping the whole service regulated to time...
I had similar thoughts about some operations south of the river. The consultation hype suggested longer dwell times at key stations to ensure on-time departures, but I notice Clapham Junction and East Croydon still only have one minute of dwell time on the majority of mainline services. Some...
Thats true! Even so, if you're 2+ mins late with an 8 car you ain't leaving on time. Expect more terminations short at Birkbeck when running late, which is probably why its been timetabled like that as you're out the way of everything else.
Some interesting bits loaded on.
All day Epsom-Bridge semi fast;
Caterham-Bridge semi-fast from East Croydon (Tattenham join-ups yet to be loaded);
Caterham-Bridge via Tulse Hill;
Coulsdon Town-Bridge;
Beckenhams reduced to 6 min turnaround (will take the baton from Bridge-West Croydons as...
I think this sort of disruption only reinforces the case for a (relatively) cheap 3rd rail infill scheme to Uckfield. Many of the issues are recounted at length in the Gibb report so won't dwell too long here. But essentially managing such a small micro fleet is too troublesome. Set swaps and...
Getting trains in the right place helps to recover the timetable and look after passengers later in the day. If there were no ECS moves or station omissions people would also be complaining the TOC can't recover the service. Do - damned, don't - damned.
If you've got terminal stations full of...
They are already driving trains without a safety critical guard and have been since the start of the year. They are in no position to refuse to work DOO on routes passed for DOO. The agreement detailed the limited circumstances on which an OBS can be absent from a service (e.g. disruption) and...
Take my hat off to the "orange army" doing infrastructure work. Doing a night shift is one thing, doing a night shift which involves hard labour is something else.
The default shift pattern for Met police (999 teams) is earlies, lates and nights in the same week (2x2x2). Nights finishing at 7am after driving a police car all night long, sometimes without a break. Unless you nick someone at 6am and you're there until 9 or 10 am. Some teams do 7 night duties...
