I believe the are several reasons all to do with the infrastructure.
1, The line being left single at the worcester end due to the time and cost altering the signalling which is going to have to wait till worcester is resignalled.
2, The same at the oxford end.
3, As a short term fix...
I believe the units were of to derby for coupling test with the class 172's.
Although not due in service till the may timetable change it is far better to check the units at Derby where everything can be tested. It is not just about coupling but also about continuity of electronics, PA as...
No!
Should be mid feb for first 2 then 1 a week from early march. 15 3 car sets first the the 12 2 car sets.
None will enter service till may timetable change. Mileage work ie 1000 fault free miles will be done on the line from tyseley to stratford upon avon as well as at least 1 trip per...
Safety. You get new trains and if the train does something you think it shouldn't then you will question it. The are many new features not only to the TOC but also to the industry.
One example. Doors closing on there own whilst the train is in service.
Reason. There is a senser which if not triggered in 30 seconds closes the door. A feature because of air con.
Result. 3 cancellations due to traincrew not being aware. The are others which hopefully CT and LM will...
Yes selective door opening is included. This will help LM with its unit diagrams although the are plans to get all platform on the Snow Hill lines to 6 car lengths which will be a great improvement and could also lead to more 172's being ordered.

Love or hate the idea of Class 172. They are the first of a new design under new standards for emitions and weight.
All of the 172/0 are in service with some teething problems but a lot of these are down to the TOC.
Chilterns are all in production and should be with them by the end of...
I think the fact that they have built well over 1000 cars from the turbo/electrostar range shows a differant answer. 172 are a new design which is up to modern standards. Yes they will be one or two teething problems but the design is good and it was only a matter of time before some asked for a...
Well if I was to think steam then either a GW Class517 or Grange or maybe another dean goods or an Aberdare. For this you could substitute any 4 none flash work horses from the LMS, SR or LNER. although I would like a 77XXX.
Getting newer one of the prototype diesels like DP2 or 10000...
No that's right we don't have too. You can also be asked to leave a train and catch the next one at the point where you split the ticket! Also fact although I have never met anyone who has implamented that rule.
As a ticket seller I agree that some people are jobs worths but we do often get customers who are as bad. I feel that staff or customer we all need to think a little of each other. I'm ment to offer the cheapest ticket from A to B it is open to interpritation if that means splitting a C or not.
