Shapps "promised to scrap HS2 Golborne spur"

There's really no need to talk about Carlisle and Lancaster in that way!

Shapps "promised to scrap HS2 Golborne spur"

Used to be. Edinburgh leapfrogged Glasgow around five years and continues to grow faster.

    Tired Scotrail

Again, the SNP fairly obviously aren't calling for themselves to upgrade the rail fleet. That be the opposition parties. I can't comment on maintenance etc but as a commuter I can tell you I far prefer travelling on the HSTs than the 170s I used to ride.

    Tired Scotrail

Well, it's obvz not the SNP calling for it. Labour are demanding the HST fleet be withdrawn immediately on safety grounds and the LibDems/Tories just bemoaning old trains in general.

    Tired Scotrail

Very good - poor Merseyside! Got to say I'm surprised from prior experience that the Northern fleet is younger (just) than Scotrail's.

    Tired Scotrail

Anyone got a league table of 'tired' fleets? https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/8968919/calls-to-replace-old-tired-scotrail-fleet/

ASLEF accept (subject to members agreement) 5% Scotrail Pay Offer

Are they? Got any figures on that? Would be interesting to see. £50k or whatever it is a train driver might make may well be perfectly commensurate to the job they do, but £50k also puts them in the top 10% of earners, so I think its fair to say is is exactly the money people think it is. I...

ASLEF accept (subject to members agreement) 5% Scotrail Pay Offer

It's also what we call the price of living in a civilised society. Obviously you can vote Tory to try and get the taxes on your near £80k salary reduced, but I don't fancy your chances.

Borders Railway Extension: suggestions on how this should progress

Ms Grahame told the meeting in Edinburgh: "You will get it through to Hawick. "Its success will make it rock solid that it will be extended." https://www.scotsman.com/news/transport/rock-solid-prospect-of-extending-borders-railway-christine-grahame-1-5020083 Subtly different from what is...

Plans for a Glasgow Metro network and Central-Queen Street tunnel unveiled

Subtle difference here is, this isn't a think tank, but a commission appointed by Glasgow City Council. And both GCC and Scotland are SNP run, so, you never know...

    Scotrail Class 385 Discussion

I've seen over a dozen MSPs on the train in recent years. None of them have been daft enough to be caught sitting First Class.

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

Maybe misworded that - between Dundee and Aberdeen I meant. I've been on a 158 three times in the three years I've commuted, so...

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

As someone who commutes between Dundee and Arbroath, I don't know what the situation is closer to the central belt, but this statement has all kinds of eyeroll coming from me. I got on that packed 158 the other day (and lets not forget a 158 is a rare sight north of Dundee), and had to stand...

Expansions for Scotland's rail network proposed

I thought the primary international hub for the entire UK was Amsterdam Schipol ;) Anyway given the expansion that both Edinburgh and Glasgow already are having to make to meet future demand, the idea we should shut one is a bit daft. Glasgow Airport contributes £1.44bn to the Scottish economy -...

    “Scotlands best ever railway”

It's going to be two years before they hit their target of 92.5%? But they aim to hit 92.4% by March of this year? There'll be protests in the streets over that 0.1% for sure!

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

First time on a Classic HST today instead of a 170. Seat capacity upgrade is telling. Coaches in surprisingly good condition too.

Were refurbished HSTs the right choice for ScotRail?

Have you let those 'Save The Earth' types know? Damn, they'll be feeling silly!
