I had a thought yesterday whilst perusing skyscrapercity. Why is Crossrail 2 planned to go from Hackney to Chelsea?
For me it would make more sense to have the northern portal (or a second portal) come out on the WCML freeing up valuable space at Euston for HS2.
This would see...
Hi there
Can anyone confirm or deny the following for me please:
Is the present Northumberland Park metro station where the old Backworth station used to be?
I thought that Northumberland Park was a new build (and a jolly nice one too), but my girlfriends dad says there was a station...
Now then
Quick question.
Tomorrow I have to travel from Darlington to Newcastle, and then the Metro Centre back to Darlington (changing at Newcastle of course). I am going to be given a lift from Newcastle to the Metro.
Am I able to buy a return ticket to the Metrocentre, but leave...
District and Picc west of South Ken. Met north of Baker Street. Simply because they snake through the suburbs and you can see things.
As mentioned above, Earls Court is a cracking station. And I have a full on soft spot for Turnham Green and Harrow on the Hill.
I also like the...
If they ever proceed with the Tees Valley Metro (which lets face it they won't). I believe that they are going to build new terminating platforms here to avoid the Darlington-Saltburn trains having to cross the mainline.
If there was any money for this though, I would seriously alter the...
Didn't know where to put this (so Mod's please feel free to move wherever is applicable).
Like some others on here, I have a bit of a thing for maps and route mapping.
I've been working on my idea of a perfect rail based transit system in the North East. Currently it is in powerpoint (i...
How difficult would it be (and when I say difficult I guess I mean expensive) for Northern to hire some carriages which are in storage somewhere and shove an engine on the front of them and use them on either some of the commuter routes out of Leeds/Manc/Liv in the rush, freeing up the pacers to...
Just been told about this...being in the North East, I miss out on all the LU stuff these days.
I am a bit shocked by this. Yes, it's a bit of a pathetic service, but since the Overground/Southern services have really taken off, it is an ideal commuter link onto the underground network...
Like York (mentioned previously), I think I am right in saying that since the introduction of the Eureka timetable, all services apart from the Flying Scotsman now stop at Darlington.
This is in part due to the junction nature of the station (connecting Teesside to the ECML). But as a...
I think Gateshead is bigger than Donny. Perhaps because it's underground it doesn't seem so big.
As for the closing of the doors, my other halfs mother has been told it is to stop people waiting on the bus side, jumping in front of others who are inside queing, and also to stop people going...
I know it's a bit late, but I have to say I was mightily impressed.
My Dad and I took my wee one down (he's getting a train set for Christmas and we're getting him interested and excited in model trains).
I'll definately be going back again next year...if only to look out for a bargain...
I can honestly say in all the times I've used Central, I never seen a Westbound service depart from Platform 1. Perhaps I use the station at the wrong times. Must really cut up the flow of traffic Northbound to have to traverse the entire Eastern entrance to the station.
Metrocentre shuttles are often known to come round through the old Gateshead stations and then over the high level bridge. Hexham and Carlisles I've found generally are pathed over the King Edward (although I've not been on that many of them to say with too much authority). To say its to avoid...
