    Signalman dismissed for taking break

No. What I'm saying is that I am unaware specific duties of the signaller and what risks it poses if the station is unattended/closed therefore, I cannot determine whether it poses a health & safety risk if one is were to be required to work without taking a rest. Therefore, what I'm saying is...

    Signalman dismissed for taking break

Isn't legal advice for those who are given a potentially law-breaking instructions unless it seriously endangers one's or anyone's safety is to follow the instruction anyway then take the institution who gave the bad instruction to a court afterwards?

    Midlands Rail Hub scheme plans

There's two disused lines into Moor St which I presume is used for platform 5 and 6 if it ever gets reinstated but I can't see the space for platform 6? I mean the rail line into "platform 6" is quite literally at end of the boundary for Moor St with no space for the platform for the passengers...

Discussion of not advertising departure platforms until a few minutes before departure

Given that the issue raised in the OP is only applicable to certain stations, is it really a good idea to memorise a list of stations where you need to book assistance and ones you don't need to book assistance?

What is your controversial railway opinion/idea?

Rail should be really for semi-long distance transportation. Local stations within major cities should be closed down and replaced with a parallel tram/guided busway service that goes directly into areas of high population instead of next to it like most rail stations are usually located.

Trivia: Minor stations on the approach to major stations

Adderley Park and Bordesley are lightly used due to their location. Both of these stations are located in industrial district with little residential housing. This is especially evident with Adderley Park having no direct bus connection to the city centre which in theory should mean it'll get...

New stations - Willenhall and Darlaston (between Wolverhampton and Bescot Stadium)

I believe the funding for those stations has been confirmed back in March and it was stated that the funding comes out of the HS2 local connectivity package. To be honest, I'm surprised this gets more priority than camp hill chord.

    Keep The Train Clean!

It is normal in other industries that engineers, managers, and anybody else responsible design their services and/or products to cater to the lowest denominator of customers lest they spoil it for everyone even though it is their fault. It would require a massive change in British culture to...

Why is there now an obsession with re-nationalisation?

Both systems has different advantages and disadvantages. I don't think it's too bad if we switch one out for another as a long-term trial and see if we like it or not. I'm of the belief that any idea, as long as it's not completely idiotic, should be tried out (with an honest intention to make...

Birmingham to Manchester off peak return

That's unfortunate, although I do think it's still worth trying out. A break from XC is solely needed. However there's Manchester bound Northern Trains leaving about 5 minutes later if I miss the connection, so it's not that bad and I don't plan on using advanced tickets for such connections...

Birmingham to Manchester off peak return

Thank you for very helpful reply! I just have one more question. Looking at realtimetrains website, trains from Birmingham to Scotland stops at Crewe xx:08 and trains bound for Manchester Picc from London Euston leaves at xx:12. Would this interchange be possible?

Birmingham to Manchester off peak return

I've started having regular trips between Birmingham and Manchester every weekend with occasional trips during weekday. All trips are outside morning peak period though not necessarily outside afternoon peak. I've been buying any permitted off-peak day return tickets as it suits what I need -...

Department for Transport launches CrossCountry franchise consultation

As a frequent XC user in the main core, I actually quite like XC despite its flaws. Looking through the document, I'd say the main thing the next franchise owner needs to do is to increase the capacity of trains going through the core. I'm not sure how but I think it might be possible if all...
