For resilience I am surprised that two southbound platforms were not built at St Pancras, which would have allowed trains from West Hampstead and the GN line to arrive at more or less the same time with one then waiting its turn to depart at the platform rather than being held in the tunnel in...
Thanks Adam,
That's good news.
I still have a niggling doubt.
If I buy a 'via Birmingham' ticket at the slightly higher price I presume then that most of the money will go to Cross Country. If I then travel back to London on a Virgin service on a ticket that says 'via Birmingham not...
Q: Is it possible to get a Southampton to Manchester walk-on off peak return that allows you go travel via Birmingham one way and via London the other way ?
I ask because
a) I am travelling north on Thursday, day of tube strike so going via Birmingham is best
b) I am returning on Sunday...
Might this now mean that there is a rethink on the disused Standedge tunnels that will increase capacity by making 4-tracks between Diggle and Marsden ?
So when 5-car Bi-Mode IEPs run as double sets on the Bristol run (as some will have to be as there aren't enough 9-car Electrics to cater for all South Wales and Bristol journies) I presume this means 2 kitchens and 2 trollies.
Hmm, interesting.
So the TPE stock changes in summary are:
Gain : 6 Class 156 sets from Northern = 12 carriages
Loss : 5 Class 170 sets to Chiltern = 10 carriages
Therefore Net Gain of 2 carriages.
Hmm. Is that it ?
Amusing, for sure. Indeed there may be a grain of truth in it.
Not withstanding that, this is an eminently sensible scheme. So full marks to everyone for proceeding with it.
Network Rail have other ideas for Micheldever in their document. They are considering creating a 4-mile dynamic loop by extending the existing Wallers Ash loop up through Micheldever.
So Micheldever will again have 4-tracks through it. The two new outer tracks (with no platform faces) will...
More new trains for the South of England.
Some people still wonder why people in the north get p****d off when told that there are no plans to get rid the Pacers.
Although the bus driver was obviously in the wrong, it is worth mentioning that at this crossing trains approach at walking speed. I know the crossing well.
It makes a good story for the Daily Mail but the chance of a crash were nigh on zero.
Are you sure ?
Looking at the CP5 Enhancements Delivery Plan dated 30 June 2014 on Page 127 it still has May 2016 listed as the delivery date for Preston-Blackpool electrification.
I think it is worse that that. The Press Release refers to 3 months work commencing in December 2016. So that moves the end date out to Spring 2017. There is no mention in the article is that will be the project completion or if further work elsewhere will still need to be done.
I think...
Interesting. Either this is a misprint (it should have been 2015) or it is a delay by stealth.
As it is probably the latter, I think this is very poor of Network Rail to not come clean and state explicitly that the project is being delayed. Tricking your customers and tricking the public is...
