TPE Nova 3 (Class 68 + Mk5s) updates and withdrawal from service

There are 2 68 diagrams from May and 6 from December so traction training has already started. I'm not sure whether these light loco runs are for driver route learning, traction training, or both though.

    Avanti West Coast: Standard Premium

A TM recently told me that at weekends First would only be half of J and all of K, so make of that what you will.

    Avanti West Coast: Standard Premium

I travelled on the 1145 Wolverhampton (WVH) - Euston (EUS) last Wednesday, 9 Coach Pendolino originating in Blackpool. First was rammed and Standard Premium was probably 3/4 full. Standard was full. I doubt you can read much into it as they were only running 1 train an hour via Birmingham so the...

    Avanti West Coast: Standard Premium

Whenever I've been on a 9 car recently, H has indeed had reservations and has been used for First Class passengers. It caused somewhat of a commotion last week because the antimacassars said Standard Premium... the time before that it had no antimacassars at all.

    Avanti West Coast: Standard Premium

I'm on an 11 Coach service to Manchester at the moment, G has Standard Premium headrests but HJK all have First Class headrests. The TM only announced G as Standard Premium and JK as First, no mention of H. So not sure what's going on.

    Manchester Recovery Taskforce (timetable) consultation

The board meeting today can be found here: https://transportforthenorth.public-i.tv/core/portal/webcast_interactive/562356 Now, I'm not incredibly familiar with all this, but Andy Burnham raises what happened at the Rail North meeting regarding the Taskforce this morning at 24:20 in the video...

Service improvements made possible by reinstating Castleford platform 2

I'm pretty sure it was because both the Manchester-Huddersfield and Leeds-Huddersfield services were supposed to be 6 car services going forward, meaning they couldn't both use Platform 4 at the same time. It was certainly to do with train lengths and platform availability anyway. They were...

    Manchester Recovery Taskforce (timetable) consultation

If the map is correctly labelled, it shows Liverpool to Cleethorpes being transferred to Northern in Options B and C. Interesting...

TPE services allocated for Double units

They're not. They're 6 coaches as booked, the rear 3 simply aren't in use from Cleethorpes to Doncaster due to a fault with a CASDO* beacon on the route. Doncaster to Cleethorpes is unaffected. I assume a similar reason for the Redcar service you're referring to. *Coach based Automatic...

TPE services allocated for Double units

The Manchester to Huddersfield stopper (daytime, Mon-Sat) is reverting to 3 car. The evening and Sunday stops are being inserted into Hull services so may be 6 car. The wording for Redcar, South TPE and Hull services is "most, or majority" of services will be 6 car, so there will still be a few...

Trainee train driver - Liverpool and Sheffield

As the government effectively nationalised the TOCs, every expenditure has to go through the DfT. I strongly suspect (and this is just speculation on my part) that DfT decided why pay to train dozens of new drivers (and route learn the existing Drivers) when EMR can simply continue and resource...

TPE services allocated for Double units

Some services have been extended to the Airport since the timetable change on May 17th (previously it was only Sat/Sunday that saw any Airport services). Services have been terminating at Sheffield all week due to a landslip outside Scunthorpe, I'm guessing they've managed to rework the train...

TPE services allocated for Double units

I don't think so, off the top of my head, as local door control in the centre carriage works regardless of whether any beacons are there. Only Habrough, Grimsby and Cleethorpes have them. I believe the 06:26 ex Cleethorpes (and its subsequent workings for the rest of the day) has been the only...

TPE services allocated for Double units

All stations that TPE call at/expect to call at have them, as without them the doors will not release at all. The train has to read a beacon as it enters a platform so it knows how long the platform is and thus how many coaches to open.

TPE services allocated for Double units

Across all TPE routes yes. No, the method of work is to foul the crossing now.

TPE services allocated for Double units

Indeed and everything seems to be working fine which is a blessing!

TPE services allocated for Double units

No, automatic door selection was switched on last week.

TPE services allocated for Double units

06:26 and 14:26 ex Cleethorpes (10:18/18:18 from Piccadilly) was a 6 car set today. Possibly ongoing.

    May 2020 timetable ?

The industry is "looking at" how they could get back to a Saturday timetable, with no timeframe in mind. Any increase in service is down to what the government advise, regarding the ongoing lockdown situation.
