They're not just used for 15 minute metro journeys though - try sitting on one for the 2.5 hours from Cambridge to Brighton. I did that once some years back and I'm not sure my body has ever quite forgiven me.

Yes, Sunday service at Roby started at some point between 1997 and 2007 (the only two timetables I have immediately to hand). In 2007 Eccleston Park and Bryn were still closed on Sundays too - not sure when services started calling on Sundays to either of those. Maybe the key question here is...

It would be nice if GN managed to fix the seemingly-never-ending issues on the 379s first. 0946 Ely-KGX cancelled (yet again) this morning due to the inbound service (a pair of 379s) being cancelled at Cambridge due to a 'train fault', which seems par for the course at the moment.

Thanks for the details. Still seems odd to restrict this to SE ticket offices only (and not able to purchase in advance?) but I suppose this is a bit better than the original 'online only' push. I may try to do one of these later in the year, if so I'll report on how easy/hard it actually was...

Finally got around to trying this yesterday, and indeed a Ely <-> Cambridge South return doesn't open the barriers at Cambridge either. Which is pretty poor.

It's been pretty poor for years between Ely and Waterbeach. Though it does seem to be quite a bit worse still over the last couple of months.

Take another look at 1T50 compared to 1C82. The former was right behind the latter all the way from Hitchin to Cambridge, but as 1C82 stops everywhere and 1T50 doesn't, this caused 1T50 to lose 10-11 minutes on that section. This is exactly what happens all the time with this idiotic December...

While pre-December 2025 we did have a great many problems, I think it is hard to deny that things are even worse since the East Coast timetable rewrite, which was entirely predictable and indeed was predicted by many of us on here. Trying to thread the Thameslink - which may have been delayed...

Yes - I've not been up that way for a few weeks, but I have noticed the ride quality between Ely and Waterbeach, particularly in the up direction, appears to have got significantly worse over the past week - presumably due to the ground being excessively dry.
