I can confirm this. I was coming through Bethnal Green on my final exam to qualify as a Driver when it went off!
Further to another post above, I completely agree. Fatality = red. On certain occasions, yellow might suffice, but you couldn't ever be pulled up for pressing red.
Leave, like all other TOCs and grades, is allocated.
TPE offer 33 days leave, 5 weeks which are allocated in blocks, then 8 'floating' days to be used as and when.
Weekends vary from depot to depot, but are generally worse than other TOCs as Sundays are inside the week. TOCs like Northern have...
Hi.
A friend is looking to travel from Newcastle to Liverpool on Friday 30th January after 6:15pm, returning Sunday 1st February in the late afternoon/early evening.
No railcards or anything.
I can't seem to find any standard advance fares at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Driving colleagues, I currently sign 315s, 317s and 379s. I'm moving TOC and will sign 185s. I have to do a full traction course.
Having never driven diesels before, is there anything particularly daunting or different which I need to be aware of? TIA :)
To clarify, all West Anglia depots (Chingford, Stortford, Cambridge) get a location allowance.
West Anglia Drivers work a 4 day week with compulsory Sundays extra, whereas Drivers in Norwich, Southend etc work a 5 day week with 2 full weeks off every 10.
I completed my training last year and can echo what others have said beforehand.
On the subject of failing, it does happen. However, you wouldn't be on the training course if you couldn't meet the standards and no TOC wants you to fail - they've already invested in you. On the other hand, if...
Disagree, sorry. I've found that GCSEs in Maths and English are usually mandatory for roles which involve report writing and mental arithmetic (which the TM role does!)
Nope, the pass com alarm is different to the train fault alarm. As mentioned, really not something you need to worry about until people start pulling them on you.
Well you've lost me there!
Your brain will have enough to deal with learning rules for a few months before they let you anywhere near an actual train.
Which depot will you be based at?
At a guess, probably just put them every 1/8th of a mile or so - like we have on motorways at present. Maybe every 1/4 mile, and just have a lineside phone next to every mile post?
On 315s, the drum switch is actually part of the interlock circuit, so you lose your interlock - obviously if you're above 6mph it'll then break wire 13 as well.

As you say, training covers most eventualities. If there's something you just can't...
That'd put you to sleep pretty quickly!
Sorry to throw a spanner in the works here, but don't anyone else's diagrams say "Private and not for publication"?
The 1707/1737/1807 services and their morning counterparts are very heavily loaded south of Stortford. An additional call at Sawbridgeworth would only add to crowding issues. As mentioned above, plenty of stations are just as busy and get a worse service.
