Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

You do not need to lower the track in Standedge tunnel just to electrify the current railway, this should be standard knowledge by now. It is specifically the guage enhancement works to W12 guage that will require a lowering of the track bed. And I agree with others who quote the inclusion for...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Indeed, Most of the work is done after this current blockage of the Leeds lines through Church Fenton with long stretches of knitting in place. I would of hoped at least 3 miles of juice could be activated next Christmas at the latest.

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Thanks for the explanation! So is the 'Pan-up' symbol on the Sectional Appendix only used where a manual change is needed?

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

There is no 'Pan Up' symbol on the Sectional Appendix, so Newcastle bound trains cannot switch to electric on the move. Incidentally, I have seen Eastbound 802s Pan-Up on the end of the CLC route whilst being held at the signals protecting Castlefield Jcn. Therefore if stationary North of Church...

    December 2025 East Coast Timetable

Does anybody know why there are some alterations to today's timetabled departure times from Kings Cross? For example the 16:00 1S23 to Edinburgh leaves at 15:56 instead of 16:00. The sectional running times are then extended between Potters Bar and Hatfield so the service picks up it's regular...

    December 2025 East Coast Timetable

Do we have a view yet if the new timetable 'works'? PLEASE NOTE; I am not talking about the seat reduction to Leeds, or the lack of Newark-Retford connection. What I mean is can it operate reliably unlike the famous 2018 Northern/TPEx debacle!

    Signalling issues at Darlington unfortunately!

    December 2025 East Coast Timetable

I appreciate that is Sunday morning, but the first FAST Edinburgh (08:30 from Kings Cross) made it to York at 10:14, has now left ontime northwards at 10:19.

December 2025 Timetable Change - Confirmed changes only

Spare a thought for the good people of Church Fenton. They do get 3tp2h into York as a general frequency but in the hour with 2 trains they sometimes leave at exactly the same time! 09:46, 09:47, 10:46, 11:46, 11:46, 12:46, 13:46, 13:46 etc

    Broken Rail at Tuxford (10/11/2025)

It looks a right mess at Kings Cross. All mainline platofrms full and Southbound trains queing on slow/releif lines around Finsbury Park. 1A18 (08:46 from Leeds) has already lost 80 minutes South of Potters Bar!

December 2025 Timetable Change - Confirmed changes only

This used to be a regular peak hour extra, allowing for commuters to travel from the Kingdon of Fife to Glasgow directly. Nice to see it's return if not for the morning commute.

December 2025 Timetable Change - Confirmed changes only

Actually I think that Liverpool to Stalybridge is only 39.5 miles

    Greek Street bridge replacement Stockport

Well additional DMUs are not necessary becuase they could simply use those units allocated to the peak extras all day instead

    Greek Street bridge replacement Stockport

I have noticed today that Northern are running Oxford Road to Liverpool (via Warrington Central) twice per hour all day just like in the good old days. I presume this is to make up for EMR not running Sheffield-Liverpool

    Are some trains too long?

The big problem in this country is that too many trains are too short, not that a small number might be too long. END OF DISCUSSION

    Rarest Movements ?

Today's 9E16 (16:24 Lime Street to Newcastle) started from Manchester Victora but for some reason took the Ordsall Chord and has just trundelled through Manchester Piccadilly before taking the route to Guide Bridge. In doing so it has been 'overtaken' by the delayed 15:54 Lime Street to Hull...

    Rarest Movements ?

Avanti operating through to Holyhead :)

Northern Rail Liverpool to Manchester via the CLC around 2019

There was also an initial diagram on Lime Street - Manchester Airport route, it even including the morning peak service that actually went to Wilmslow instead (06:13 from Lime Street in the timetable shared by Jfollows above).

East Midlands Railway Dec 2025 recast

Well I do remember it was hourly at one brief point (some time ago now), and it obviously didn't generate enough extra usage then. If EMR had a spare unit that 'could' operate the additional diagram it would probably be better employed elsewhere.
