I had no idea it was closed on Sundays. However I think the main reason is stupidness. West Allerton recieves an hourly service on Sundays but only has ~60K passengers per year. Whereas Edge Hill has 210K pasengers per year but does not warrant any service on Sunday. Explain that! Many of us had...
Don't forget that some weekdays the ferry goes every 40 minutes and on others every hour. The train services from Waterloo and the connection to Lymington are every 30 minutes. Clearly that will not work on a day when the ferry runs every 40 minutes. I blame the ferry.
I'd be interested in York to Scarborough. I did a run back in the 1980s, our evening class 47 hauled loco train was delayed at York by 15 minutes to preserve the final London to Scarborough connection due to a late running HST from Kings Cross. We arrived at Scarborough on time. I presume we...
Yes, that is the curve at Gascoigne Wood that allows a train to travel from Selby to Pontefract Baghill, not normally used by passengers services. Actually Pontefract Baghill was the first stop after Bridlington on this service which made a big change from Nafferton or Driffield!
In the 1980s British Rail ran a Leicester - Scarborough on summer Saturdays (it went out via York but the return was down the Yorkshire Coast Line). Originally it was normally hauled by a 37 +Mk2 coaches (with toilets), however this was swapped to a toiletless DMU in the final years!
Indeed, I was suprised to see the peak extras on the CLC Warrington Central route this morning. Being a Friday there are many working from home so these would have been a low priority to roster (probably) but Northern managed it. Meanwhile TPEx did not provide anything on the same route until...
EMR still blanket cancelled Liverpool - Sheffield which is pathetic. The maximium temperature forecast at Edale ( near the top of a long slog from either direction) today is 27C.
I'm not sure if its heat related but there is an issue with the OHLE at Trafford Park. 1B73 (09:26 ex-Cleethorpes) which became 5B73 at Oxford Road has been sitting there for an hour. 1L11 (11:51 ex-Lime Street) EMR did get through on the Eastbound track.
There is a 21:07 from Doncaster that terminates at Goole, but continues at 21:57 to Hull. It does have to shuttle out of the way for the 20:56 Sheffield to Bridlington to pass.
The tunnel length is 5,210 meters long. If the canal is 2 metres wide and 70cm deep (on average) that would be 7,294 cubic metres of water, plus a bit from the tunnel mouths to the nearest locks.
The canal tunnel runs between the current double bore and the two single disused bores, except for...
