    Cardiff Central

Didn't really want a whole new topic for this, though not strictly related.... Is there anything going on, train related, in Cardiff today? There seemed to be an overly large amount of police and security about this morning.

Severn Valley Railway Autumn Steam Gala (23rd September)

Without seeing a WTT, just going from SVR galas past, all guest locos run on all days, the only roster locos that tend not to run at daytime are the two set to work the night services, and the spare loco (in this case 4566) So you will be safe to say you can get a run behind the Caley.

The two class 50's at Cardiff Canton?

50044 'Exeter' & 50135 'Ark Royal' outside, along with 50049 'Defiance' in the shed undergoing repairs are all owned by the class 50 fund and based at the Severn Valley Railway. 50044 & 50049 are due to haul a railtour on the 13/08, not too sure of the details.

Power surge knocks out train services in South Wales

Presumably, The train I get in the mornings at 8:15 (6:18 off Carmathan I believe) terminates at Central, but the unit usually runs to the relief, then forms the 9:20 Holyhead

Power surge knocks out train services in South Wales

Got to say that information was very slim. All the departure board thing on Pontyclun was saying at 8:12 this morning when I got there was that trains were (the normal) 2 or 3 minutes late, and occasionally (for remarkably small amounts of the time): 'No trains are running through Cardiff...

    Next time it snows...

I have to admit I have been lucky with the railways and failures. The only failure I have had in recent memory was an S-bahn train from Neugarten to Buxentude (in the Hamburg suburbs) just over a week ago. So I definately can't say it's better abroad. We were probably given plenty of...

    Welsh automated announcements

It is my own Welsh, but as I commute into Cardiff every day, and our automated announcements seem to be plentiful, it should be correct. As to the platforms, they should be ferminine (i.e. un, dwy, tair, pedair ...), but I am no longer sure.

    Welsh automated announcements

You should find that although they are in Welsh first, the message is always repeated in English shortly after. Certainly in the English speaking parts of our country (can't be sure about the north or the west) Anyway, I'll give it a bit of a go: (not sure of all spelling) 'Y tren yn...

    The long departed

I'm only up to date on a few of the projects that I mentioned, only really the SVR's 3MT (as that is where I go 'to relax'). But, to the best of my knowledge the only ones that are nearest to completion are the Railmotor & Betton Grange. A quick search has told me that the Railmotor is to...

    The long departed

The granges were 4-6-0s, and there is already a project under way at the Llangollen Railway. http://www.6880.co.uk Whilst on the subject of locos perfect for use on preserved lines, the Severn Valley Railway are also in the process of constructing a BR standard class 3MT tank...

    Llanelli level crossings X 2

Talking of crossings Does anyone know what has happened to Llantrisant west crossing just west of what is now Pontyclun station? It doesn't appear to have been working today, with all trains (in both directions) stopping at the signal just sort of it, with the driver then getting trackside...

First Great Western 2nd Loco hauled diagram

Service into (Cardiff) Central from Taunton at 13:24 (11:05 ex Taunton?) was 57316 and 57303. So it would appear that the service is still top-n-tail (even if with 57303 instead)

    ATW: Cheltenham Spa - Maesteg?

It varies a bit, but most of the time it is a 150 or a 158.

That was then changed to being steam KR - BN because that allows the signalmen to go home earlier. The steam loco wouldn't need to return, A diesal would
