The Railway children. How many versions are there ?

I recently purchased that new book Hatfield to Hertford branch line by Peter Paye in it he mentions that on the 7th January1951 the BBC film crew were at Cole Green station filming a TV series about the Railway children. I own a DVD made in black and white of the railway children story which is...

Is there out there a dating agency for railway enthusiast I know a lot of couples met whilst working on a preserved railway but if you do not work on one where would you look.? Perhaps somebody else has asked this question before way back .

    Hertford East blockade in October

Before they start work on extending the platforms the trailing and facing crossovers may need to be moved further out along with overhead catenary alterations so further blockade's will be required.

    Hertford East blockade in October

Why move a great Eastern signal box all the way up to Yorkshire? Surely one of the heritage lines in East Anglia could at least store it on their site until such time a decent place could be found for it?

Where will the last semaphore signals be on the national network?

As I have said on another thread on this site the only book I can think of is the Signalling Atlas and signal box register ( 3rd edition ) 2010 a bit out of date but contains all that you want to know.

Where will the last semaphore signals be on the national network?

Just read that NR have signed a contract with a major signalling company to install new signalling in Cornwall and Devon . The signal boxes at Exeter and Plymouth will control one county each. So it looks like in a few years time the west country will not be the last place to see semaphore signals.

    Signalling Map of the UK

The only book I can think of is the Signalling Atlas and signal box directory by Peter Kay and David Allen published by the signalling record society. This will tell you everything you need to know. The only problem is it is well out of date but a updated version should be available in the near...

    Ashford-Minster

That is correct although the level crossing's at Wye and Chartham are controlled locally. A second panel was installed in Canterbury / Wye area signalling centre to extend it's control out to Minister but the work was cancelled not sure if the second panel is still there or has since been removed.

    Island Line Upgrade updates

There was a caution aspect towards the pier head . It was a single yellow on Ryde St. John's road up starter which put it about 1.5 miles from the buffer's. The story behind that is to do with cost but I will not dwell on that. Needless to say the yellow aspect will be replaced by green. Also...

    Island Line Upgrade updates

I thought the lever frame would control the line as far as Smallbrook junction and a new panel controlling the rest. But I could be wrong. I have forgotten how many levers St Johns road has and which one's are spare. Even so it look's like a step backwards but of course they did it with Truro...

    Island Line Upgrade updates

I think the middle photo could even be the up home as it is numbered 44 and if they are following normal convention with signal numbers then even numbers will be will be the up direction . But why send a up train through the down platform? So my guess is it's the down signal with either the...

Trivia: Stations with platforms that have never been used

NO it has always been disused trains from Welwyn either terminated in the down main or the other bay which had a run round loop. New connections were put in around 1922 for this purpose when the new station was under construction . Goods trains however used the original route of the branch...

Clacton ,Lincoln & Swinderby Signal Boxes to close next year.

I read in Rail magazine today the above three signal boxes are to be abolished next year. Of course Covid-19 could delay the start or completion of these schemes.

Trivia: Stations with platforms that have never been used

Tricky one that. At one time I feel sure it was known as platform four although never used. This means at some time in the past the other platforms had been renumbered.
