    IEP & Thameslink

And it doesn't look good either - the poster on WNXX jokingly asked us all to yell in the direction of Parliament 'FARCE!' - seems to indicate that the project is going ahead. :-x What the hell is wrong with Norman Baker, complete and utter incompetent idiot in my eyes.

    Steam shed for St Pancras?

I'm pretty sure Willesden was a freight depot, there were a lot of 8F's, 9F's and Super D's allocated to Willesden weren't there? I think Finsbury Park was a main depot at one point - I think Bounds Green opened when the Mark 4's and 91's were delivered (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm...

    Greater Anglia 317s at Hornsey

Sets have been visiting Hornsey for the past week or so for tyre-turning as there is a backlog of work and they can't do it all at Ilford, some have been visiting Hornsey for the work. 317649 was there this morning, that was the plain white set you would've seen. :)

Class 37 loco hauled Liverpool St - Kings Lynn.

You're calling 317's quiet and boring? Pfft. ;) Probably the second loudest EMU there is, you'll have to take a ride in the motor coach at some point to see what I'm on about!

    Jubilee Liveries Poll

It's got to be the 90 for me, when I see it passing through Marks Tey whenever I'm on my travels it looks very smart and absolutely superb in my opinion, and it pays homage to the old Stratford tradition. The best Jubilee repaint in my opinion however is 47580 - look on the WNXX homepage, looks...

    Opinions- best Rail magazine

In my opinion Todays Railways UK and Modern Railways are the best magazines to buy - the late Peter Fox and his chums at Platform 5 are very well versed with the railways and traction and rolling stock as well as situations such as the IEP fiasco, and also write a lot of interesting articles on...

    Not so Greater Anglia

As a GA customer, I don't personally think we need new trains - in my opinion the 321's are rugged and comfortable enough, and despite the neglect by NX still they soldier on day in day out which is a testament to BREL engineering to be honest. Preferably each set would be sent to Doncaster in...

Any word on the Glo-Ex resuming (or not)?

According to posters on WNXX the trial was judged a success and the plan is to reintroduce the service for the 9th of December, although apparently they will have to jump through the same hoops as a normal Open Access Operator competing with a TOC. Hope this helps. :)

    Lee Valley Class 315's

315's do occasionally make it down the GEML as well - in recent years ('One'/NXEA days) they've made it to Braintree on at least one occasion and Colchester also I think, both on passenger services. I'm guessing the brisk acceleration will keep them out of the way of 100mph stock so its not too...

    Greater Anglia Class 321/4 Refresh

I'm pretty sure that is the first time. I had them on the 16.26 to Marks Tey and 23.01 back to Sudbury that day, they looked very smart together. :)

    Greater Anglia Class 321/4 Refresh

10 sets left in FGE livery if anyone's interested. 321365/366/438-443/447/448. 321363/364 are at Doncaster, and if anyone's interested 321359/361/362 and all subsequent repaints will emerge in the white GA with *Red* doors, not dark blue as applied previously. :)

I have worked as a railman for 23 years, my 3 year old son has cancer and my plans.

Really moving stuff there Big Jim, I hope everything works out for the best for you, your little boy and your family, can't imagine what you're going through right now. I just did the SMS donation thing, good luck with everything buddy. :)

Unusual spot at Acton Main Line

That Grand Central 180 is probably 101 which is on hire to Hull Trains to cover for 109/111-113 while each set in turn receives reliability modifications. Hull Trains 180's are maintained at Old Oak Common and will be maintained alongside FGW's 180's when they return this year, so what you...

    DBS demic 60 move

60044 and 100 are not demic. Apparently both are repairable, albeit high hour loco's - I've seen a post somewhere on WNXX suggesting 044 just needs a new start motor and traction motor repairs but has over 19000 hours on the clock. 100 has just under 18000 hours, so if you were going to repair...

    South Wales electrification

I beg to differ. The new Pendolino's are to cater for new services (to make Liverpool go half-hourly and Glasgow hourly if I remember correctly), and there's nothing mentioned about them replacing current stock. The Pretendolino is a very useful piece of kit to have sitting about, it can be used...

    My views on Toton

60033 is due to return soon and is currently under scheduled repair at Toton. Note that this is not overhaul, but repair, so it'll receive a few new parts but it won't get the level of treatment the others have had. Other long-term stored 60's being repaired are 60012/087, and apparently also...

    The Lymington shuttle 158

I think a little outside the box thinking could work here though - for instance, why couldn't South West Trains hire in daily a Southern 313? You'd only have to train up Bournemouth drivers and guards on the class, (which is what SWT had to do when they introduced 158's onto the branch in the...

    South Wales electrification

313's for Moorgate will be staying as you say, but the Cambridge/Kings Lynn fasts will be going over to IEP operation with commuter seating layout, which means there will be more EMU's free, and I think for some peak hour additionals you could manage with just the 317's/321's which come to 25...

    Class 325 Scrapping

325010 had been out of traffic for a long time and had been robbed of a lot of parts to keep other sets going. Apparently it had been stopped as it needed a replacement wheelset, but at the time as only 7 sets were needed due to the downturn in traffic, repair could not be justified. Over time...
