Not sure about a comparison 'day out' with York, where I now live, but I lived in Hull for 9 years, up to 1988, and I would say it had/has a lot more character, especially along the river Hull and the High Street. I would agree it has in the past had a very blinkered view of its maritime...

Likewise the 17.40 Reading to Newcastle...after Sheffield it appears to run from Holmes Junction/Rotherham Central, Aldwark/Thrybergh J to Mexborough East ie the old XC route avoiding the new Swinton...all at about 25mph. I assumed it was a one-off for engineering work, but was a Friday.
