    Leeds station overall roof

I worked on the St Pancras refurb. Glass is considered expensive, relatively, and then there is the cleaning issue, especially over the OLE. I notice Leeds doesn't get cleaned often, if at all...Dust from humans and brakes combined with atmospheric damp and diesel fumes...not a great...

Is Lowestoft the furthest East station in the UK?

Of course, a power of work has reopened the most Southerly, Truthall Halt on the wonderful Helston branch aiming for the wonderfully named Water-me-Trout on the edge of Helston, which of course will take the acolade of furthest South.

Petition for reopening the Hereford, Hay and Brecon line

Well there was a thread back in 2014 on the subject...it's on here somewhere. It was based on a speculative article about the prospect of the return of the line. It seems to have disappeared. Perhaps someone from the campaign will respond. Kidderminstershuttle.co.uk

Perth station redevelopment - ScotRail & Network Rail in discussions

There were merely arches through the wall, both onto Platform 3 and to the ticket office in what was called the the Dundee corridor (from 3 to 2)...no celebration of entrance (before that pathetic travel office). Of course most people would arrive at the Glasgow Road end to the ticket office...

Perth station redevelopment - ScotRail & Network Rail in discussions

Aye, Perth was my spotting place of choice from the late 50s onwards. There was never a true concourse..You would pick up a taxi from the turning area at the (Glasgow Road) North end or be collected at the Queens Hotel/Station Hotel entrance, where parked cars mingle with Postal vehicles and...

    A Private Train?

I recall a strip in the Wizard, or a similar DC Thomson comic, back in the 50s or early 60s when a well healed youth, and his 'chosen' mates would tootle about the, extensive, network...Gosh I was so envious as a 12 year old spotter. It lead to so many fantasies...ran for several editions...

York North yard + Klondyke sidings

OK... thanks all, but we have still not got to the bottom why a new yard (Newport NE) in the early 50s had Klondyke sidings...why call them that in 1952?

York North yard + Klondyke sidings

Yes, but why have Klondyke sidings? and why so-called?
