Virgin to Rebid for WCML Franchise

point taken, but they still have many more ideas on how to improve the railways even if the DfT refuse most of them. All you hear out of the other operators is how much they want to increase fares by.

Virgin to Rebid for WCML Franchise

hopefully they keep it, seeing as they're the only operator who didn't just sit with inherited/ancient trains with a new lick of paint to protect profit margins and instead actually went out and bought new trains.

Would you pay more to get new trains?

Whatever your opinions on government, that £300 is going back to the public purse to help the country's finances. The £75 [the amount is really irrelevant] is going straight to the TOC despite them providing zero extra service quality.

    Virgin Employee Travel Perks

If you're senior enough your entire family gets free first class travel across the whole network. I used to work with a guy who commuted 2 hours each direction to London every day using the travelpass because his father was someone high up at Virgin Trains.

Rejected UPFN appeal with a valid ticket

You make it sound as though it is a very easy process, when really it is not and the first time you send the ticket off it will almost certainly be rejected. In my case at least it was made out to be in the form of a penalty. I see no reason why common sense can't be used in these situations...

    Lack of competition for Eurostar

If i go from London to Paris, i can choose one of probably 10 airlines who will all offer me the lowest possible fare. If i go by train, i go by Eurostar or i stay at home. They have no competition and no desire to reduce fares other than by regulation, which in turn leads to bloated running and...

Rejected UPFN appeal with a valid ticket

But going by the experience i have had with SWT and IRCAS, what you are telling them is completely false. There are not many people who would pursue it beyond the first appeal dismissal by IRCAS and instead just roll over and pay. I dont know what their reasons for upholding the appeal in the...

FCC Penalty Charge - False Name

if your name and address were false and he took no other method of identifying you i dont think you have much to worry about, save for bumping into him again one day in the future. you cant have criminal charges against a non existent person.

Rejected UPFN appeal with a valid ticket

By the sounds of it they all use the same template! I had the Passenger Focus bit too. I just find it ridiculous that they can completely ignore the complaint element of the letter and the incompetency of their on board staff, only commenting on a decision that has since been altered prior to...

Rejected UPFN appeal with a valid ticket

Another update....it's a good job IRCAS overturned their first decision as I just had two identical letters through from SWT with a short fob off that they are unable to get involved in penalty fares etc. To me all that's apparent here now is the complete lack of organisation within SWT. Their...

Virgin First Class ticket am - breakfast

on the weekends you may as well be in standard class these days. once upon a time the weekend service was near as damnit the same as off peak weekday on the london-manchester route. peak weekday seems to have dropped to the old off peak weekday, off peak weekday has dropped to the old...

Rejected UPFN appeal with a valid ticket

Update: Having emailed SWT and copied in IRCAS and Passenger Focus I am pleased to report that IRCAS have responded saying they are now able to uphold the appeal. They havent given a reason, but one point i have noted is that in their appeal rejection they referred only to the conditions of...

Rejected UPFN appeal with a valid ticket

I dont have to pay up for another week yet so will wait and see. Does anyone know how much these 'admin fees' turn out to be by the time the case arrives in court? I'd usually just roll-over and pay this kind of thing, but because the only reason i am in this situation is because of SWT's poor...

Rejected UPFN appeal with a valid ticket

In answer to your questions: 1. As explained the delays meant I arrived on the station concourse with very little time to spare. If you travel through Waterloo regularly you will know at 0930 on a weekday morning every ticket machine and window has huge queues. 2. I had a LU travelcard that...

Rejected UPFN appeal with a valid ticket

So according to Section 7.4 of the Penalty Fares Policy - https://www.ircas.co.uk/docs/SRA%20-%20Penalty%20Fare%20Policy%202002.pdf - if they are not satisfied that a person is a fit and proper person to be an authorised collector they may withdraw that person's authority to issue penalty fares...

Rejected UPFN appeal with a valid ticket

Exactly correct. I expense all business travel so I have absolutely no reason to fare dodge and would have just bought another ticket.

Do you know what the minimum time is for National Rail transfers? Thanks for the help. I'll definitely include that quote from their site in the letter and probably get one of our company lawyers to have a glance over it. When I get a response I will be sure to post it :)

Rejected UPFN appeal with a valid ticket

I begun the journey at Canada Water approximately 30-40 minutes before - I make this journey regularly and always leave at least 30 minutes. The journey should take 8 minutes according to TFL but the date in question [18th October] was when the Jubilee Line had significant power failures -...
