HST railtour on The Robin Hood Line

Not the southern bit through Newstead, but I remember doing the Grand Old Dukes 125 special that did the northern bit from Kirkby-in-Ashfield to Shireoaks in 1992, with a detour to High Marnham and back. http://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/90s/920111hr.htm

P and O Irish See Cairnryan Terminal

I'm afraid I can't help with that one, as I am not local and have never used the terminal. If it is anything like the Stena terminal at Belfast, where the Liverpool ferry comes in, there would be a taxi phone in the terminal. Perhaps someone who has passed through the terminal can help.

P and O Irish See Cairnryan Terminal

P and O terminal to Stena terminal is a good mile and a half between the junctions off the A77, plus whatever distance is involved off the main road. Depends on the weather, how fit you are feeling and what you are carrying.

P and O Irish See Cairnryan Terminal

The 58/60/358/360 from Ayr/Girvan to Stranraer seems to open up some other 2 hourly possibilities. Connections to rail at the Stranraer end are not great, given the infrequent train and ferry schedules. Timetables are available at the same page of links.

P and O Irish See Cairnryan Terminal

I would suggest the 350 bus from Stranraer to the terminal. Link available at http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/timetables

TRAVIC rail tracker map inaccuracies (was Diversions on ECML North of Newcastle?)

Euston to Glasgow also regularly appears to switch from WCML to Chiltern line at South Hampstead and then to MML at West Hampstead, before running via Coalville, South Burton and Tamworth, before jumping back onto WCML!

    Hastings to Ashford track gradients

Gradient data is in the linked spreadsheet (second Tab). https://www.safety.networkrail.co.uk/On-site-Solutions/OTP-Safety/~/media/Home/Projects/OTP%20Safety/Copy%20of%20Track%20Gradients%20by%20DU.XLS You are probably best reordering the data by ELR (column A), then Start Mileage (Column...

Can't focus camera through the viewfinder

Looking at Google images of that camera, there appears to be a rotary dial on the side of the viewfinder - the manual refers to it as 'finder adjustment dial'. My guess would be that it should adjust the focus of the viewfinder. Have you tried adjusting that?

Trivia: Journeys that can only be made by using a combination of tickets?

Another example is where there is a second class fare, but no first class fare, even where 1st accommodation is available. One example is Liverpool to Derby, with 1st accommodation available on TPE via Manchester to Sheffield, then on XC to Derby. There is no 1st class fare other than a season...

    UK Railway Gradients

The second worksheet/Tab in the spreadsheet has all gradients, and they are expressed as 1 in ??. The one exception is that level track is expressed as zero. I find it useful to resort the data by ELR, so that it is more geographically arranged.

    Smelly passenger

Coming from Scotland, I agree wholeheartedly that pants are synonymous with underpants, and definitely not with trousers. I have heard it the other way round in parts of the north of England, but I would say it is very much a minority interpretation.
