    Eurostar..What happened?

Have any of you noticed the archways you walk under when you have alighted a E* service at St Pancras? When you come down the travelator to the undercroft and make a u-turn there are the rarely used police desks. You the turn right through archways that you may not have noticed before. These are...

    The North really is grim

Where does "the north" stop and "the south" begin? Anecdotal evidence says that in terms of inner city areas, I'd say the most grim places I've been through on a train: Sheffield, Rotherham, Wakefield are all classed as "northern". However there are more than a few similarly depressing areas...

Changing the livery on existing train diagram drawings

Thanks. It is a conceptual schematic of a "TGV" I have on my computer. It includes cross sections in side and plan view of the whole train. It's pretty neat. EDIT: I have one in UK loading gauge as well. Again, it's a conceptual schematic of a train that doesn't exist, but uses TGV systems...

Coldest place on railway in uk

Coldest place in the UK is Altnaharra - no railway near there though is there? Where's the closest? Hottest station though is easy: Gravesend, Kent.

    East Coast Class 90?

One more time: they were INITIALLY restricted to 110. That was later changed to allow 125 running south of Grantham only. They have good capacity and were popular with passengers but there were issues with the longer dwell times compared to mk3 or mk4 stock.

    TV Alert Tonight (Monday)

I will be watching. I have had one of the "Seconds from disaster" used in a training course before as an instructional video highlighting duty of care in safety critical roles. I find the programs in the past have been well made, clearly written and of high quality, I hope tonights program is...

RAIB investigation - Ufton level crossing

I disagree - lessons need to be learned from it. That will be the most important thing to add.

Any suggestions for a new camera?

£200 will get you a second hand slr, lens and tripod which will be good for night photography but in that range you will not get much and/or it will be of dodgy quality. In short it will be slim pickings. I can recommend a Nikon coolpix P300. It might be a shade over the £200 budget but it...

    Reasonable HST emergency stop reason?

If we get a wrong side indication on TVM it is emergency stop time. Not automatic - driver initiated. I assumed it would be same in UK!

    Reasonable HST emergency stop reason?

Wrong-side signalling failure. EG - pass an AWS ramp with the signal at caution, but you get a "ping" instead.

    HS2 rolling stock features

Possibly - there are SO many HS2 related documents floating around the ether, it's hard to know which ones have been superceded, which ones are correct and which ones were nothing more than speculation to begin with!

    the quiet place

Really? I'd rather waste money than time. Money comes and goes, but time - that's just gone. You'll never get it back! Time is far more precious... Whoa - this is getting philosophical. I wonder when Paul Sidorczuk will join in?!

    HS2 rolling stock features

Double deck trains to UIC B or C gauge are fine and good, but of little use for through trains to Glasgow (ones that will be high speed to Manchester, then classic line onwards north) - for these services it will have to be normal UK gauging. Unless there was to be a sub-fleet of trains that...

    HS2 rolling stock features

If these figures are correct, it is virtually identical to a TGV power car axle loading of 17t
