Not so many trains you can do this on now but on a recent trip only did it when stopped at stations and there was no line next to the train. Agreed you should not do it when the trains are moving as it only takes a split second to be hit by somthing and death may well result.

Interesting When I went Wrexham to London the train did not go through New Street. It goes on the line Eest of the centre before joining the line further down towards Birmingham International.

The previous stand in one at Euston was very good and quiet mainly as it was very hard to find behind the ticket office. It was kept very clean and had a range of cold and hot drinks and many types of biccies and other goddies and it could be used with an advance ticket.

I did pick my exact seat. I specifically picked a single seat from the plan in 1st class a few weeks ago on the Virgin website. This was a first advance fair and I could pick any seat. Same as XC as well.

When I was at Teesside Uni around 8/9 years ago it ran every hour for most of the day and was well used to places beyond Darlington. I always preferred the coastal route though as it offered better scenery
