The sole member of staff who was around in the Epsom branch the other day denied they are closing - but I note that the store now only contains half as much stock as before ( although the store has at least been re-arranged into a clear, uncluttered, layout ).

Is there any other way they could reverse to get in or out from the depot area? I'm assuming they'd want to try to avoid reversing in the platforms as far as possible.

Surely, though, for that to detect a derailment the entire train needs to be off the rails, as a single bogie still on would still provide the short circuit? By that point, it would be blindingly obvious to all on board that it was off the road anyway.

There is precedent for that; Travelodge Porthmadog make guests walk 5 minutes to a café called Breaktimes on a nearby industrial estate if you want breakfast... and no, they don't give you a voucher for it. You have to pay for it separately. Albeit in this case, the Travelodge never had on...

I saw the Hastings unit on it a couple of weeks ago, so if there's a failed track circuit they must be talking any movements across it signal by signal.

I visited the Willesden facility once; it makes no difference if it was letters or parcels being carried because everything was sorted elsewhere and it was a simple matter of getting loaded "York" trollies off the lorries and onto the trains and vice versa.

Ha ha, no - I was talking generally. When I'm on a 700 ( which is usually by choice over other types when there's more than one type on a route... ), I will be in a window seat, both feet on the floor and I'm nowhere near encroaching on the aisle seat floorspace.

Unless people are "manspreading" there's enough floor width by the window seats that there's no need for anyone to encroach on the floor space for the aisle seat anyway.

Are the seats in the 387s also an ironing board design? They're certainly not comfortable... I would add that I hope they aren't going to add those silly "ear" type headrests head-bashers at the top of the seats.

I suspect this route, being separate from the core Cross Country network, may be controlled from a separate location rather than the main XC control room?
