    TfW Ticket Machine Problems

Possible that your chip was dirty or charged with static? I work in retail and 'remove card' is usually solved by a good, deep rub with your thumb.

Transport for Wales January Fares Revisions - some good news!

I see the Ecml fare war has had its effect. Tpe are finally reducing the any permitted CDRs from Thirsk to York. Has anyone noticed any nasties yet?

Ashchurch to Worcestershire Parkway - no fares avilable?

There are indeed no fares set. Perhaps contact the relevant TOC and ask if they can set a fare?

York ticket office closed 2 hours early today plus questionable signage?

York ticket office has closed early. I got the reliance bus to work this morning owing to service disruption. I therefore feel some mystery shopping coming on...

    Northern Rail Court Summons

Rora 1889 requires intent to avoid payment. Whilst not intending to pay at one point and then paying when challenged can be a violation see Corbyn v. Saunders I think you have not demonstrated intent to avoid paying the fare. From what I have read I'd actually be tempted to instruct a...

    Help with SV application

It sounds like you were given a penalty fare, which is not a spot fine but a fare charged at a higher than normal price, so no you would not need to declare it.

    Fare dodging mistake

Hi. Firstly as Bristol parkway has ticketing facilities you should have bought your ticket before boarding. You will be treated as having avoided payment for the full fare, as in law this is what you did. By offering a 'short fare' you have deliberately attempted to defraud the railway. This...

    Ticket refund but still travelling

Unsure as I've never done it after picking up tickets. But there is a legal requirement to pay your fare under the regulation of railways act 1889. Whilst unlikely to be detected I would advise against travelling. Have you already received the refund? Also are you sure it was actually an...

    Ticket refund but still travelling

Hmmm odd response from virgin as advances are normally non refundable. Did they ask for the return of the tickets?

    Private prosecutions of TOCs

Given that the TOCs regularly use private prosecutions against passengers the process can't be too difficult or expensive. I therefore wish to ask: What would be the prospect of bringing private prosecutions against TOCs for breaches of those sections of consumer law subject to criminal...

    ECML fare war woes

It seems the super off peak ticket is now valid on every day of the week. So far so good. But the TVM at Thirsk doesn't show it! In any other business you wouldn't get away with overcharging in this manner but tpe seem to think it acceptable. To clarify it doesn't show on weekdays or weekends...

Delayed and had to buy new ticket

Assuming you had left sufficient time to change trains had things ran on time you should not have been charged for a new ticket. How long did you leave for changing trains? Edit: I see they recommend a different TOC. That makes things a little more complicated as they shouldn't have done...

Ticket refund : An odd request from TPE

If its a refund and it was paid by card it should go back on the original card, this much I know from working in retail. Delay repay however is different as this is compensation not a refund, so you would not be asked for it then.

Why is advice offered to those who cheat the system

For the same reason defence lawyers offer mitigation: Everyone has a right to a fair hearing and to have their side heard. Otherwise there would be a risk of disproportionate punishment.

Forbidden from using power socket in station waiting room

Reminds me that next to the bench at the front end of Victoria coach station, there is a sign above the socket stating 'Recharging here is theft'. Not only is the sign inaccurate as it'd be abstracting electricity, albeit contrary to the Theft Act 1968, it probably cost about as much to make as...

Cleethorpes toilets are free but require a valid train ticket

Thirsk station has a single universal toilet. It is only available during opening hours and you have to ask the ticket seller for the key. For over a year it was a portaloo style affair in the car park but this was because of the sewer having collapsed, since fixed. Never heard anyone asked for...

    ECML fare war woes

Hi, on Sunday as usual I bought my usual (at the moment) ticket from the TVM at Thirsk Station. The ticket I bought was a CDR from Thirsk to York for £10 routed Tpe only . However it later transpired that a cheaper CBA fare has been introduced only for sale on Saturdays and Sundays. This was...

Railcard expires before return journey, what do I do?

I thought this applied only if the 26-30 option was unavailable to purchase?

Railcard expires before return journey, what do I do?

I take it you are already 26? If so you would be better getting the 26-30rrailcard before buying the discounted ticket. If not buy a 16-25 railcard Now!

Validity of 1 month return ticket

Ageed. You would be committing an offence under section 5 of the regulation of railways act 1889 as you would be travelling without paying your fare. However I'm not sure I understand your question in full. You can use it for one journey in each direction and you also can't use the return...
