    [DE/DK/SE/NO] Direct trains Berlin–Oslo

So far they haven't been that reliable, so DSB might need to keep a few as spares. There has also been rumours about DSB sending them further south than Germany. 1778358905 Do you have a source for that? I've been trying to find information about the Århus-Hamburg route without much success.

    [DE/DK/SE/NO] Direct trains Berlin–Oslo

As a night train it's great for those travelling between Oslo/Gothenburg and Hamburg/Berlin, but as a day train it's useful for many passengers. I don't think there will be many people on it travelling all the way from Oslo to Berlin but it offers direct journeys Oslo-Copenhagen...

That will be very interesting to see!

[DE/DK] First element of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel successfully immersed

Or more likely, the trains will continue to run via Jutland while the tunnel opens for cars on time.

    [DE/DK/SE/NO] Direct trains Berlin–Oslo

I haven't seen a source in English, but it's widely reported today that DB plans to launch direct trains between Berlin and Oslo, in cooperation with DSB and Vy. Starting in 2028 there will be two daily pairs between the cities, a journey that will take 14-15 hours from end to end. ICE Ls will...

[DE/DK] First element of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel successfully immersed

Thanks for the update! I'm a bit worried we will see fast trains between Copenhagen and Burg auf Fehmarn when the tunnel opens, and then replacement buses to Lübeck…

Inter rail query Norway and Sweden

What are you looking for? Karlstad is not a bad place to stop. The town has its charm, and if you want to make a short side trip I can recommend a trip to Torsby or Sunne on the branch line Fryksdalsbanan. The scenery might be a bit dull if you've just been to Norway, but the line runs along the...

[DE/DK] First element of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel successfully immersed

After a lot of problems with the approval of the vehicle used to transport and lower the tunnel elements, the first part of the tunnel is now in place on the bottom of the strait. https://femern.com/press/news/the-first-element-of-the-fehmarnbelt-tunnel-successfully-immersed/

[SE/FI] Updated: Haparanda - Tornio trains funded, expected to start 2026

Yes, I'd be very surprised if it doesn't happen. The standard gauge platform at Tornio station is history, but there are occasional standard gauge freight trains across the border. 1776082102 Since they have to reverse the train, changing the locomotive becomes a bit easier. Attach a new one at...

[SE] Talgo wins tender of night train carriages for procured services in Sweden

There was some discussion about it on Mastodon as well when the news came, and most people aren't too happy about it. Although it was great to hear that it won't be locos from Talgo.

Rumour: Prague - Copenhagen from December 2025

I agree, it seems like the winter weather is the reason.

Rumour: Prague - Copenhagen from December 2025

DB Infrago will present a new planned opening date in two weeks, we will probably get more news after that.

[SE/FI] Updated: Haparanda - Tornio trains funded, expected to start 2026

Tornio East is located in an industrial area in the outskirts of the town. If the trains stop at the central station, I don't think East will be very popular. So not a huge loss. Yes, the standard gauge platform at the central station is gone, which is a pity. Extending the Haparanda trains...

    Sweden to Norway (Lulea-Boden-Kiruna-Narvik) queries

As far as I know, most of Norrtåg's trains have ETCS equipment, so that is usually not a problem. But Norrtåg has a shortage of trains in general which can lead to cancellations. If everything goes as planned they will recieve five more trains later this year which should improve the situation.

Major cities with train services not all converging at one central station

Construction of the tunnel to the central station hasn't even started yet, so it will not be extended in 2028, late 30s is more realistic. But even then Stockholm will remain on the list, Saltsjöbanan will soon return to Slussen and terminate there. We can also add Copenhagen to the list as...

    Paraguay - railway to return?

According to the article, the plan is to build a "double-track light electric railway", so I'm not sure old and narrow DMUs are what they need.

[SE/FI] Updated: Haparanda - Tornio trains funded, expected to start 2026

I agree. When I change the language to Swedish there is no mention of November. Insted it says that the traffic is expected to start in the beginning of next year.

Stadler preffered bidder for new Enterprise

I did look there without results, which is a bit surprising since Stadler usually are pretty quick with press releases. I haven't seen anything from IÉ or NIR either. So I'm a bit curious about where Railway Gazette got the images from. 1765367326 And the new Norwegian long distance Flirts have...
