Some phots from yesterdays tour to Newcastle, return was a bit of a farce with 47787 having square wheels (like some of the stock) being unable to return so no heat was available, the warmth was soon lost, I was able to move into first after York, which was a aircon so the sealed windows left it...
Why would they have two duffs and a 37 on a few coaches going 5 mile up and back? Anyway thought most the 47's were busy on thunderbird duties in Anglia, presume it is anything with EH top and tail what ever is spare at KM.
Not wanting to be the negative one here but is it worth it? Unless you have got millions to spend on a fleet of brand new engines then you will have to use motive power avaliable to buy after other companies have finished with it, is there the call for such an operation, look at the Riviera...
A few phots from yesterdays tour to Edinburgh, a long but enjoyable day with some fast run and good noise under the station roofs at Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Huddersfield & Man Vic.

Maybe it is just me but I don't think appeals for money towards buying locos for preservation will bring the coffers in like they used to, for example if you decided you wanted to preserve a 37, set a group up and asked for money to help who would give to it? There are so many in preservation...
Just read through the thread and got to agree with the opinion of most on here. Do you have any experience of locos, i.e. working on them no what you are doing etc with the engineering, electrical and cosmetic restoration of heritage viechles? I look who this is being setup by, now this is not...
Yep all have but same regarding 31106, not sure, did it not used to produc on Wessex Trains services such as the Brighton sometimes so not exactly rare.
I'm one af the anti-freight at diesel galas brigade, that is not the place for them. The people who fund the event are the ones who travel not the ones who take photos in a field, therefore the gala should be aimed at its paying punters who want to ride behind engines and not watch them...
Think at most lines 18 for a secondman, 21 for a driver. I thought you became a shunter before a guard, and I think that is 18 as well. Cam't see driver for a fiver being 16 due to insurance purposes?!
Is there not one on the PF spinner next month?
While the drivers in pres do try and play to the crowd as much as possible there is a limit to what they can do and as someone who attends running days and galas at pres lines and railtours with 37's there is a difference between a minute or so...
I agree, each to their own but I was under the impression that from what 60's are in any form of operational condition now none are 'big' for the loco scratchers who do spin'n'win type tours which is where you regularly found 60's working if you wanted them. As far as I know (correct me if i am...
Well said.
Seems to be such a hype about 60's these days as they are being withdrawn left right and centre and only a few are left going, they don't make much noise on freights on the mainline so why anyone would want them on 5 coaches at a 25mph railway is beyond me.
...And why would...
Ditto although from a little further North, was it not also the day a holiday maker burst between Cheltenham and Brum (one of the 67 sets) and got rescued by a 60 or something?
Indeed, would be excellent to have another standard back but I doubt it will happen with the rest of the fleet (I say fleet, odd one or two may be more appropriate) being refurbs.
Doubt even DBS know what is happening from one week to another so no sorry I can't
