4028 tripped the OHLE on the Hebburn line this morning. It limped into Pelaw with the front pan down and disgorged a heavily loaded train onto the platform - I've never seen Pelaw so crammed. Once emptied it moved back to Pelaw sidings.

Don't forget the other problem with peak frequency on the Shields branch is stock availability and capacity through Newcastle city centre. Saying that, I agree it's an ideal time to think about the long-awaited dualling (and maybe even building the additional station between Pelaw and Hebburn...
I wonder if the ticket machines could be configured to do smartcard validation as a back-up for when the validators are (inevitably) broken? They've got all the card-reading hardware so presumably it'd just be a software update?
Thanks Nexus_Comms for those pictures, pretty interesting. I notice the horizontal frame continues across the front of the car where the emergency exit door was located on the original test metrocars in the 70s. I wonder if that's why the door was eventually removed in the production metrocars...
