Weymouth idling trains leave 'horrendous smell'

Of course there is also the small problem of the Sectional Appendix declaring it "permanently out of use"

Trivia: Any 'isolated' sections of the NR network

Not for much longer.... it is closing through relocation.

    Fire at Vauxhall station

Actually, technically, they sometimes do. Litter clearance takes place within T3 possessions, quite often alongside other worksites ot more substantial work. Possessions do alter the train service. Ergo, a service altering possession with litter clearance can cause cancelled trains.

RSSB - 'New in cab display shows route ahead'

In the RAIB's report into the Wootton Bassett SPAD, it states: If there is concern that activity in the cab can lead to a driver missing the sighting of the signal, then why are we in the railway industry so determined to introduce what is potentially more distractions in the cab? What is...

Southern DOO: ASLEF members vote 79.1% for revised deal

GSM-R Broadcasting is hit and miss as to whether it will work. For example. In a large area of panel or workstation you might find there is only two or three broadcast areas which cover multiple routes and directions. Sometimes they are not appropriate to use. For example. You can...

Would CrossRail 2 affect the SWT Metro lines?

I doubt there would be a doubling of service, merely the trains changing colour (or class)

WCRC banned from running trains on the mainline from 18th Feb 2016 now rescinded

I am disappointed that the BBC have decided to use unverified information from a Google Group as the basis of their report. Especially as they did not read down it far enough to see there are also questions over the driver.

WCRC banned from running trains on the mainline from 18th Feb 2016 now rescinded

This raises an interesting question. If a driver (or any other member of Safety Critical staff) is medically restricted in their paid, 'mainline' job; how should their voluntary preserved railway group treat them?

Line closed between Farnham and Alton [13/04]

Latest I heard yesterday was that there is a T3 Posession booked for all of this (WON 3) week, but there is a glimmer of hope they might not need all week. I am not based on the route though, so someone more local might know more.

Would CrossRail 2 affect the SWT Metro lines?

If I remeber the document correctly, the consultation for the new South Western Franchise asked for comment on TfL taking over suburban services. It read to me that the shortlisted bidders would have to consider bids that did not include some or all of the future CR2 pathways.

Derailment in Kent between Ashford and Canterbury (26/07)

If all the staff working on trains worked for the Train Operator then it could be possible. Of course when some services are offloaded to Rail Gormet and their friends.....

    York Station revenue block

Oh no..... http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=81812 Apparently the RPO at York was guilty of singling out RJ based on previous confrontations. Oh please, now you are just getting a little paranoid that every is out to get you because you are a railway worker in railway uniform. I...

    York Station revenue block

An interesting response in that quoting a statement is engineering. New one on me; but anyway: Define a fare evader? Having "held a badge yourself" you will know that fare evaders come in every shape and size from the down and out alcoholic tramp to the big businessman, pregnant women and...

    York Station revenue block

The question should be whether the RPO be getting varying levels of abuse from their own industry colleagues in the middle of the station. I agree that there are RP staff and Guards/Conductors/Train Managers/next years new title that are rude and obnoxious but that that point in time they are...

    York Station revenue block

Unfortunately the revenue Protection team are about in a Catch 22 situation as you can get. Evil in the eyes of the those that are troubled by them and evil in the eyes of the managers who don't see them taking enough money. RPO's who are trying to crack down on staff abusing their facilities (I...

    Priority seat story

Surely that is getting too close to "empowering the public" to be a good idea? Giving people a pass or badge that allows them to move people out of priority seats? or am I reading it wrong? Anyway, quite a few TOCs now employ a strategy of "if you are pregnant and a season ticket holder...

    SWT plans?

Purleeeze That is like saying that to run a train service you need to have a train. Commonsense is not a popular word on a working railway. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Last time I was forwarded a copy of the SWT Propaganda up here it said that ASDO will be almost the...
