TfL have wanted to decommission the magnetic card reader on gates for a long time. After they have stopped issuing their own tickets, and at least some gates on each gateline were fitted with barcode readers, they would be able to stop accepting National Rail magnetic tickets.

I believe the eventual plan for intercity journeys is that a contactless credit or debit card would be linked to a pre-booked journey and optionally a seat reservation, so that the card would replace the need for e-tickets or paper tickets. This is model 3 in the link...

I think these ticket types are for tickets loaded onto the Key, rather than specifically for KeyGo.

The problem is that a card from issuer A holding a product from issuer B being used on a service from issuer C is a customer service nightmare.

The solution in the UK so far is different gatelines for express platform, such as Paddington platforms 6 & 7, and Victoriia platforms 13&14
