Getting into the Paddington First Class lounge for a fiver?

Don't see why not. They might have done back when it was officially a separate franchise (FGW Link) but now I can't see any way they could deny it. I've got into the EDB GNER lounge with a Haymarket ticket before. I think you're aware of the traditional section of the lounge which is well...

The First Class lounges at King's Cross (East Coast) and Euston (Virgin Trains)

I'm surprised you like the KGX lounge, nothing special whatsoever. Well I've always found the staff very friendly (opposite to your review) but the lounge is dull, grey and has nothing much going for it. There used to be some plants there to cheer the place up, but NXEC got rid of them pretty...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Standard class catering? Where do the hungry people from first class go?

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Agreed totally. Why would a first class passenger have to queue in the standard class buffet? We pay a premium to get superior service and that's what we used to get. I can see no reason to take the train to Scotland anymore, for me it was the restaurant that made the trip so much nicer than...

Do the Pendolinos First Class coaches ever get full?

How do you prove it if you were on a busy train?

Do the Pendolinos First Class coaches ever get full?

25% is measly compared to East Coast: http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/about-us/passengers-charter1/Seat-guarantee-scheme/

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Have you asked about hot food to see their reply? Personally I'm going to see what happens to East Coast Rewards before I make a final decision, but for me now the main benefit of first class is the individual seats. Oh yeah, I was also someone who voted with his wallet against free food...

Not sure about Virgin, but you do on East Coast. Seems only fair.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

I'm happy with the afternoon tea service. I think it's the right offering for that time of day. Although traditionally I used to delay lunch to get a burger from the at-seat menu I noticed I was well in the minority. As most people will already have had lunch then the offering of some small...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Not everything was bad about NXEC, they did after all introduce their first class at seat menu on selected weekend services. It was nice to have a burger and chips and maybe a dessert with whatever you want to drink also served at seat. I hope everyone adopts silentone's policy of doing...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

I'm sure the fish pie and cottage pie were East Coast creations. Gmail is wonderful - quick search for East Coast cottage pie shows I was right. Email sent 29/01/2010 introducing their new 'winter warmers' menu. They weren't brilliant (I think the curries that replaced them were somewhat...

Never fall asleep and miss your stop again!

About 7 years ago I was on a GNER service from Kings Cross to Glasgow, my destination was Edinburgh. This was a regular train for me and the crew knew me well. There'd been a problem at work so I never had any sleep, I was told just to relax and they'd make sure I was awake before Edinburgh...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

The signs aren't on the windows, they're more subtle than that. They are where the seat numbers are displayed and at the end of the carriages. It's easy to not notice if you're sitting there.

Due to overwhelming customer feedback of course.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Well I specifically booked the quiet coach, but I was surprised how empty it is and when I asked the crew if the train was normally this quiet they pointed out that the other two coaches were almost full.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

I asked for two beers which I thought was perfectly reasonable (the cans are small like on an airline) but was told it was one per round. Of course that could be just to ensure that there was enough to go round - the quiet coach was, erm, quiet but the other two coaches were busy.

Is that the one with the NXEC livery?

    0540 Edinburgh-London KX 23.05.11 (The Flying Scotsman)

At least they didn't go with a flames livery like in the promotional shots :) I know (well hope) that was never the plan anyway. As for Flying Scotsman branding GNER had it right with 'Route of the Flying Scotsman' above the GNER crest.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

I agree with most of your comments but trimmed the quote to save space. It was sad to be sitting in coach K last night, the previous Friday the source of so much fun and merriment and now a virtually empty quiet coach. The chef was a miracle worker on that service producing superb meals for...
