As misquotes go thats not especially serious, indeed the quote (as you have put it) from NR doesnt tend to give the impression that WSMR were ever "happy" with Arriva's proposed service.
I would be amazed if anyone would swap cheap tickets, on very comfortable trains, with (usually) helpful staff for a slower (and probably more expensive) trip, on a 158, with Arriva.
I agree entirely with this.
As Welsh as I am, it remains a fact of life that people do not (and to be honest, have never) moved between North and South Wales in sufficient numbers to justify a dedicated direct service. Gerald should be stopped, and the money invested in other rail...
Even using your criteria, which I dont particularly agree with (a link for smaller towns to larger towns/small cities would be both viable and would benefit both ends of the line, imho) would justify the reopening of many lines - if you drew circles around those cities you mentioned, using one...
It amazes me that the government can - apparently - find money for this, but cant find a considerably smaller sum of money for reconnecting many towns to the rail network. One imagines there would be considerably more votes in reconnecting towns, as well as replacing far more car journeys than...
Are you playing it on the easiest difficulty settings? If so, the 50mph top speed is probably down to it being in first gear (check with F5 to see what gear its in).
It was £900,000 (ie: about 128 days of operating Gerald) to refurbish a depot on the understanding that it would be open to all train companies - not just WSMR - and the alternative was that they would be based in Shrewsbury.

I use the W+S fairly regularly (every couple of months) and I have never seen the buffet car closed.
As for this, its a wonderful idea both in terms of its convienience and its cunning, assuming of course they make allowance for people without food sitting near people with food who suddenly...
Another vote for Ruabon - Barmouth (how much effort would that take to bring back, one wonders?), but personally I regret never having had the chance to go between Mold and Chester on the train. If they had kept it open it would have been quite heavily used, given the way the local area has...
Bit of a lurker here who has only just registered, so hello.
With regards to the redoubling of track, would the infrastructure (esp the bridge) have deteriorated that much since it was lifted? I am sure I can remember it being dual track around the start of the 1990s.
