RENFE considering London to Barcelona (and perhaps beyond) services

In order to collect as much fare income as possible, the trains would have to call at Paris. Is it possible to run Lille-Paris-Lyon and beyond?

    Interrail Prices

I’ve just returned from a quick sojourn to Marseille, La Spezia and Nice using a 4 travel day Global Pass. As i qualified for a Senior Pass, I bought a first class Interrail Pass at £258. The additional reservation costs were Eurostar going out 32euro, Lille to Marseille 10 euro, Nice to Paris...

What train journeys have you done recently and what rolling stock did you travel on?

Well I did Loughborough to Marseilles on Tuesday, via St Pancras and Lille, if this counts. All First Class (Interrail Pass) except we had to slum it in economy on Eurostar. Class222 EMT Class E320 Eurostar Class TGV Lille to Marseilles. Fabulous journey.

TPE franchise to move to OLR

I'm of the opinion that the Headline is to divert attention away from a problem franchise that in Government circles, is undermining the process of rail franchising. Let's get control of the narrative! TPE has had problems for a number of years and Northern Mayor's are beginning to control the...

Could the Norwich - Liverpool service be sped up?

I've used Liverpool to Nottingham on numerous occasions and once or twice from Loughborough to Norwich when I had meetings at UEA.The first two trains from Nottingham to Norwich go via Melton and Oakham and I was surprised on the number of passengers who used it. There's quite a few people who...

    Substantive bus service withdrawals post-Covid

Kinchbus Loughborough are struggling . Cuts to No 2 and Skylink Derby which are omitting villages (Long Whatton &Disewortj) from next month. No 2 will no longer run to Leicester, terminating at Sileby. Villages such as Sileby,Barrow and Cossington lose their Leicester connections Post COVID is...

    Avanti West Coast cancellations

Clearly the current Business Plan is not viable in the current and near future. Avanti have resorted to overt disinformation to hide the predicament of its failings or indeed the failings of the DFT Contract. I suspect that most of the passengers who use the service are not au fait with the...

    Avanti West Coast cancellations

If Avanti were to be stripped of running the West Coast, do the current problems go away or are we still left with current situation?

    Merseyside Transport

A major factor for Merseytram was to help regenerate the areas along the proposed route. South Liverpool (Speke Garston) had received millions of Euros via EU and Merseytram was to help the other City areas en route. A tram to JLA without serving the bulk of Speke does not make sense. It would be...

    Stagecoach Takeover Discussion

This will be a good fit for National Express and can’t see this being challenged by Competition & Markets Authority. The Pandemic coupled with as RT4038 has stated, Enhanced Partnerships, has changed the Bus Market. Look out for further mergers once this has been approved by all parties.

    Compulsory Reservations- Poll

Having travelled extensively on Spanish railways, where compulsory reservation on Inter City is prevalent, I think it is the way forward for the UK in a post COVID environment. Whilst comparisons with Spain and the UK are not generally helpful, given the geographic spread of towns and Cities, I...

'Leeds Bradford Airport Parkway' Consultation (2021)

If LBA is anything like East Midlands, then there are large passenger movements between 6 and 9am.(In normal times) Given that you’ll need to be there 2 hours before departure for international flights there’ll be a large number of passengers which the train will be of little use. Like EMA, LBA...

Trivia - Furthest you've seen someone carried beyond their intended stop

Got a mate that has gone past twice. First time he was on the Liverpool Central to Chester train, on route to Shrewsbury. He fell asleep, woke up at Hamilton Square, unfortunately on the return working. He finally got to Chester but alas too late for the Shrewsbury connection. Embarrassed phone...

    Was the Pendolino worth it?

Given the state of the previous rolling stock, they were a blessing. Yep, the seats and internal layout, could have been better but the introduction of the Pendolinos reinvigorated WCML services.

    Amsterdam by Eurostar

2w With respect, there’s a hell of a difference between market share to Paris and market share to Amsterdam. I wish it well, but it’s not exactly a goer for most people outside of London who will continue to use their flights from regional airports to Amsterdam. I’m lucky, in as much my train...

    Amsterdam by Eurostar

Going to be a hard market to grow, given the number of flights from London and especially the Regions.

What swings the balance for you between a direct service and one where you change?

Living in Loughborough and regularly travelling to Liverpool, I’m just used to changes. The easiest is to catch the Nottingham train to Liverpool but the other options that come up regularly are via Leicester and Brum. Some tight connections on a Sunday evening, coming back, via Nuneaton and...

    Shearings' parent company enter administration

Been on two National Holiday vacations to Italy. Great Drivers and decent hotels used throughout. Shearing and National Holidays are big brands in the Coach Holiday market and when conditions allow such holidays again, the names will be back, in my opinion. Different owners, obviously, but...

Your all-time favourite bus trip (and why?). Reports welcome

A number of years ago now, but Dolgellau to Machynlleth was a really nice ride. It was jointly operated at the time by Arriva and I think Lloyd’s. Arriva have since left Dolgellau but I seem to think that each other’s tickets were allowable on either operators buses for that route. We were...
