Or the statement could mean an intention to solve the Sunday issue . It’s a statement perhaps, that we are getting a lot of stick about Sunday services and let’s see if the rail unions will play ball. (Not having a go at ASLEF or RMT here)
Travelled twice in September to Lille Europe and from Brussels back to St Pancras. Both journeys served what I would call half decent and portion size and service was fine. On Standard Premier ,I'm more impressed with the space and I never have high expectations of the fayre. I would say, it was...
The Industry (employers & employees)need to get their Act together. A Labour Government will not tolerate this for much longer. Times are hard, and investment, which is required on an annual basis is at risk. It will be easy for any Government to blame all of this on the rail unions concerned...
I wonder if it would be possible for 2 trains to be hooked up and then uncouple on route. For example, I've travelled a few times to Marseille via Lille Europe. The Marseille connection there is part of a two train service from Brussels, the other going to Strasbourg. They uncouple at Marnee La...
There are a number of jobs out there that require shift work at all times for far less remuneration. We as a family got used to the fact that my missus would be working either Christmas Day or New Years Eve, and weekends were a normal working day. Never mind being asked to work extra if a...
Being an avid Interrailer, I’ve noticed a huge interest in taking sleepers. My advice is as follows:
Don’t have high expectations of your experience unless you’re using a couchette, by choice.
It is not the Orient Express, more like ‘Leyton Orient Express’
Research the current Sleeping Offers by...
Don’t why OP is worried about the security. It’s just another hurdle we have to jump through. The quicker, the better, as in any airport that I’ve used. I understand the reason for it, the Tunnel, but I reckon unseen profilers are looking at people as we enter the security area. We will not know...
There are certainly some SNCF dislike on this thread. I was travelling from Marseille to Genoa today via Cannes and Ventimiglia and because of vandalism on lines between Marseille and Toulon, nothing was moving towards Nice. I eventually boarded a very delayed regional service to Cannes but...
Most of traffic issues are localised. When you start seeing buses overtake cars in peak time, and arrive 10 mins earlier than the car, that is when you’ll see a greater modal shift. TPE are really shifting longer distance passengers and I would expect an increase , which in all probability will...
By the time EasyJet had left EMA sometime around 2007, another airline , namely Jet2 , was beginning to grow plus Ryanair increased their activity. Unless a station is within walking distance of a terminal, passengers will opt for the car. The loss of EasyJet had nothing to do with making the...
Personally, I applaud the Train Manager to issue such advice. The TM wants to make the journey as comfortable as possible for all passengers & easier for Staff to do their job.
I suspect that many of potential delay pay claimants will take the view that,
" Well I got there" or Well I got home" and "these things happen". I'm probably like that myself . Does the possibility of paying out for delays change behaviour on the railways? I don't know . Jury's out for me.
Some really good discussions on this thread. In reality, I feel that under current conditions, Basel is a step too far. The only location that I can see working is currently Frankfurt to London. Even then, it must allow Domestic/International travel between Frankfurt and Brussels, to make it...
If you're serious about committing to net zero carbon targets, then it comes at a cost. Eurostar is a beneficiary of the whole of the UK contributing towards the Channel Tunnel . You mention a number of reasons why it shouldn't happen and your comment
is rather flippant, to say the least. I'm...
I’ve been following Midnight Trains vision through its weekly newsletter. They are finding lack of availability of suitable sleeper stock. They dropped the ‘bombshell ‘this week of having to put on hold any services from London & Edinburgh, as well as commitments to Lisbon and questioning the...
Commercially, I know the reason why, although Eurostar quietly dropped its through fares, I think either pre pandemic or during pandemic. I guess I’m part of the minority who would like this to be re thought. An inclusive railway should be thinking outside of the box but I guess keeping...
Wouldn’t it be also better if they actively encouraged through fares for the great unwashed amongst us who don’t live near London and have to add on cost of a peak fare, if there are not any advances available. For this reason, I’m out or interrailing.
